Oldest hockey stick sells for 1.9 million dollars Fri Dec 22, 6:02 PM ET
MONTREAL (AFP) - The world's oldest ice hockey stick, a hickory shaft carved in the 1850s, sold for 1.9 million dollars US (2.2 million Canadian) here and will be displayed at the Hockey Hall of Fame.
An anonymous Canadian man made the winning bid in an internet auction purchase, according to 45-year-old seller Gord Sharpe, an Ontario man who has owned the family heirloom since he was nine.
David Romeo, chief executive of selling agency Auction Wire, said the stick is among the most important items in hockey.

Some reporters were saying it was worth 4.25 million before the auction. Looks like there was a lot of BS being thrown around to inflate the value. Besides, it looks like a farm tool to me, a crooked stick, which had many uses on the farm. It may be the oldest hockey stick simply because it's an old piece of wood that the seller had used himself to play hockey with.

Exactly. It's an old crooked stick that was used to play hockey with. Was its original purpose to serve as a hockey stick? Some people seem to want to believe it, but I'm not so sure. |

Im guessing the guy went and found a really old tree, chopped off a crooked branch at night and got himself the "oldest ever hockey stick" and a lot of cash. Smart guy. Stupid Canada. |

There are ways to authenticate things to know if something is fake or not. You are making too many assumptions. |
