No, they sucked too.

Bond is not GQ. Bond is Playboy. Get it right.
Final answer: It was boring. |
Are you saying it would have been better if Bond was Hustler? |

| My point is it's more about T&A and gadgets and soundtrack, which is what made it a great film. Pierce Brosnan Bond was more like GQ than Playboy. |
Frankly, the Pierce Brosnan flicks were ass, save for his last one which rocked because it skewered the North Koreans proper. Screw North Koreans.
If you're into the gritty, more realistic side of Bond you should revisit "The Living Daylights" which was actually a fine film and frankly, prophetic, as it portrayed OSAMA BIN LADEN as a main ally of Bond! Yes, that character was based on Bin Laden.
Timothy Dalton was neither GQ nor Playboy. He's hideous ugly, and a decent actor to boot.
The new guy did a fine job considering what he had to work with, but he still seems more suited to a roll as the main muscle working for the arch villain. |

I was very sceptical of Daniel Craig but he convinced me. Great acting. Great job chasing the parkour guy (for an amateur).
Shame about the face. And the beer-gut. And that they kept showing off his body instead of the girl's. But overall, great movie. |

The last movie didn't seem realistic politically. They really made the North Koreans look good, with the exception of the one guy.
The Living Daylights is my favourite modern James Bond movie. Plus it shows how the attitude toward Afghanistan terrorists has changed.
It's strange hearing people getting nervous about Daniel Craig because they're "purists." A real purist would be going back to the books and saying "Why aren't they playing baccarat?" "Why do they change the exact way she dies?" "Why terrorists instead of Russians?" Not "Why did they get a blond guy?" "Why does he have a different car?" "Why doesn't he order a martini shaken not stirred?" |

The older Bond movies bored me. They were like 90 minutes of high-school boy-wish-fulfillment and haven't held my attention since, well, highschool. I don't understand what most guys have with Bond movies.
The only reason I went to the new one was because it was touted as different. And the new one was great. I liked the action sequences, I liked the focus on Bond's psychology, and I liked how the movie kept it's cards close to it's chest. The new Bond comes off as a psychopath, which you would need to be to pull off that sort of job all the time. Nice one. |

Me too. I'm reserving tickets for a party of seven. SEVEN. for this thing. And I'm trying not to read this thread. Why can't all these jerks just shut up or say they liked the hell out of it? Pissing me off here.
*Edit* -- Just read Privateer's post, thankfully it was positive, and I'm starting to feel optimistic again. Good-bye, cruel thread. (till I come home with the authoritative review) |

Dalton didn't suck. I'd rank him after Connery and Craig. I loved Roger Moore as The Saint, but he was silly as Bond (except maybe Live and Let Die). I loved Pierce Brosnan as Remington Steele, but he was too pretty to be Bond. Pity George Lazenby trying to fill Connery's tux - he did have a good story and the best Bond woman. Diana Rigg. (Mrs. Peel. You're needed!) |

Yeah, especially the part where they were torturing Bond with scorpions. |

This latest Bond film was exceptionally good. Here is a spoiller for Jongo Guru:
About half way through the movie they shoot Bond out of a torpedo tube and he swims to the beach. He sneaks onto the beach and stabs some dude in the neck. Sweet stuff.. worth the 7,000 won. |

| ...This movie kicked so much ass. Every other schtick has been rolled out in these films- why not realism? Mr Craig is the best Bond since Connery. Full stop. |

Did you and I see the same film? Realism? This installment had no more or less realism than any other in the series, which is fine, but let's call a spade a spade:
Jumping from crane to crane hundreds of feet in the air?
Shooting small propane cannisters that cause massive explosions?
Having the exact antidote for any poison in your dash?
Defibrillator (see above)?
Retrieving the metallic case from the sinking building?
Dodging machine gun bullets? "I got you!" "No, you missed! Nyah!"
The whole fuel truck sequence?
etc., etc., etc... |

watched it last night. i thought it rocked. i really enjoy those kind of movies that delve into the origins of a character who we've already come to know and love.
that black dude in the beginning who bond was chasing... he could f'n move. |

likes and unlikes.
Likes:
This bond looks a little more rough and tumble and less puffy and meterosexually.
The chase scene at the start was quite brilliant. Real? uhmm....no, but damn, really cool IMO.
The filming in Montenagro made it look pretty oppulent.
the small packet defibralator. mtk didn't think it was believable but I don't know why; I thought it was a good idea.
openning credits; I thought they were pretty cool.
unlikes:
A Flucking ford??? NO business in a bond movie. period.
the omega line was too blantant advertisement
nothing sexy in this movie; start to finish.
Craig, while a fine Bond, seemed to have problems with the accent as I swear there were times he sounded like someone from Montana.
Drinking that salt water to make him puke...I winced at that. barfarama.
I haven't really been a bond movie afficianado. This movie was fine. |
