I'm flying into Beijing on the 30th and I'd like to be somewhere with a bit of a lively nightlife for New Years Eve.
I think Shanghai is supposed to be better than Beijing for nightlife but is so much better as to justify the 12 hour train ride?
Will I find accomodation in Shanghai easily on New Years Eve?
How about train tickets, do a lot of Chinese people travel on New Years Eve?
Does anything happen in Beijing for New Years Eve?

go to Shanghai.
i spent two new year'ses (how do you pluralize that one?) in beijing. the first one i went to Tian An Men, which was totally dead, but with lots of armed guards. apparently, the locals go to the Bell Tower to hear it ring out (only happens once a year!). SanLiTunr should have some stuff going on, but i think it's so crud anyway, why bother?
