Toronto's Canadian Stage Company has decided not to stage My Name is Rachel Corrie, the controversial play about an American peace activist killed by an Israeli bulldozer.

It was a decision based on the play's merits, rather than the political controversy that dogs it, CanStage artistic producer Martin Bragg said in an interview with CBC.ca.

"It was an artistic decision," said Bragg, who saw the play in New York. "It just didn't work on stage."

Based on the diaries of U.S. activist Rachel Corrie, who died trying to stop the Israeli army from destroying a Palestinian house, the play chronicles her life as an adolescent and young woman.

More than one high school has refused to put on Jimmy Brunelle's

Quote:
COUCH POTATO SANTA
$30.00
a comedy for 13 players
Time: 20 minutes

For the last month, Santa has been lying on the couch watching cable TV. He refuses to move, work, or shower. Christmas is indeed in danger. Mrs. Claus pulls out all stops to get him off the couch and back to work. Great for Christmas, or anytime!

I would agree with them on this one. It sounds to me like it's of dubious artistic value.

saw it last summer, without having read the diaries.
I felt only the closing scene worked. The production used genuine eulogies and media reports with Rachel eerily watching on.
Up to that point it was badly written and was rooted in a weak viaual concept.
There should have been a counter balance to her sickly sweet morality.
I don't think anyone is missing out by not seeing it.
