I have 10 certified copies from the Korean consulate in L.A. Do I still need to bring my original diploma with me to Korea, or will the certified copies be enough for employers/immigration/visa runs?

I was recently told at the immigration office that they don't accept the certified copies anymore. I don't see why you don't bring your original with you. I would think twice about mailing it to a stranger but if it is with you and you give it to them, you will get it back. Besides, if you want to go teach in another country after Korea, you will need your original.

I bring my birth certificate, diplomas, all of my sacred paperwork. I feel safer with it than leaving it at home. Dad might decide to clean out a room and throw everything away.

Why wouldn't you bring you original with you, just in case? You never know with Korean immigration policies...they seem to change by the minute, depending on who you talk to.

You should be able to get by with the certified copies in order to get your visa issued. However, after the SBS scandal Immigration did suddenly ask every single E2 visa holder to go down to their local Immi office with their original diplomas in hand, so you never know when you might need it. You're wise, however, to only give certified copies to your boss.

I am unable to get to a consulate (none in my state) to certify copies of my diplomas. Should I have them notarized and/or stamped by an official at my university? How else can they be "certified?"

You can registered mail the original to the Korean consulates and pay them for each copy they make.
