| I have one month vacation coming up in mid January and need to plan a trip in SE Asia. I've already been to China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Thailand. I want to go somewhere I haven't been, mainly to relax. Shopping would be nice too. I'm not crazy about temples. Where should I go? Thanks! |

Well if you want to stretch a bit further a field, Australia or New Zealand. It's summer and they don't really have many temples and speak English.
In region: Singapore/Malaysia |

If I had a full month off, I'd do: INDIA.
Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Agra and possibly one or two smaller cities.
I look for meaningful travel experiences. I can't think of anything worse than doing the usual tourist traps in SE Asia alongside mobs of crazy Korean group tourists on their 2 day trips to Thailand. |

You might consider Sri Lanka.
Tropical beaches & temperate hill country, inexpensive & comfortable, deep history & culture, wildlife reserves, great food, easy to get around, & very friendly people.
I spent a memorable 3 weeks there last february. |

I back that up for sure...was there a while back and one of the most chilled out places going...off the beaten path...Hikaduwa...its in the south and if you like surf its there!
The thing about SL is that everyone thinks the country is in arms. Not true, its all up north. Get off the plane, get out of Colombo and go south. Galle Road takes you all the way down to Hikaduwa....ahhh...Hikaduwa

If you want relaxation, cheap prices, paradise and warm weather...check out Boracay in the Philippines...
It's my little piece of heaven !!!
And you can get every kind of food you can imagine there !!!!
Plus the people are very friendly and do speak some English

| Phillipines, Malaysia or Vietnam are all excellent places for a month. You can spend a month at each of these alone (easily) or throw, say Cambodia or Laos together with Vietnam. All have beaches, great food, cheap living and lots to see and do. |

India.
(Though I surprisingly changed my plans and chose New Zealand when the opportunity for a one-month trip surfaced a couple of winters ago.) |

Hey, don't go spreading this idea around. Some people might have suicidal tendencies. |
