Your entire post is basically a denial of the simple facts: prostitutes are dirty and disease ridden. This is not a value judgment, this is a statement of fact. Unless you want to provide evidence that HIV, ghonorrhea, hepatitis, syphillis, etc etc are NOT diseases.

All right mother mary, we get your point. Go insert your useless 2 won's worth into another conversation please.

My point, which you dont get, is that Thailand has the right to kick out all sex tourists. Infact, I diont give a crap if they allow it for domestic consumption. Its their goddamn country, and all the perverted Svens, Helmuts and Johns should get the boot, and preferably castration thrown in as a bonus. Maybe that would deter those revolting perverts. Though I doubt it.

Listen to yourself, you swivel-eyed loon. Your point is that you want to stick your nose into what other consenting adults are doing. You obviously can't appreciate the several points made that in doing what you propose, the lives of countless people will be affected, mostly for the worse. If you can at any point engage in this debate without debasing people for fulfilling a human urge or refering to people in such emotive terms, please continue. But if you choose just to continue as you do, contributing nothing of merit whatsoever, you'd be best to go visit elsewhere.

I repeat my request: Can anyone show a source for this supposed crackdown? The OP's link doesn't work, and I have not seen anything on the Thai discussion boards or newspapers.

Not that this discussion isn't interesting, but until there's a source it's purely hypothetical, and I'm extremely skeptical that a government with no mandate would pull up an issue like this at this time.

If there *were* a crackdown in the works, it's a pretty good bet that we'd be reading about it at http://www.mangosauce.com.

Hmm . . . nothing there so far.

Jinju, I don't necessarily disagree with you. I am against prostitution, but I don't lecture others on what they do in their spare time. That's my choice.

What I don't agree with is your painting of prostitutes. It is not such a black and white issue, as you make it out to be.

I absolutely freakin hate Thailand. It'd become a glass crater if I had any say in it. Honestly - I'd put several thermonukes on it. I hate the culture, I hate the girls, I hate and instantly dismiss people - especially men - who like it and visit there regularly, I hate the sellers, I hate being pestered for my vast amounts of white man's green.

Im a bit inclined to agree, Spinoza. I have no idea where this 'kind and friendly hospitality land of smiles' BS comes from. My man and I are in Bangkok and have not met one person who has not tried to rip us off yet and we have never, (this is our third time here) been privy to the excelletn and friendly service people boast about. In Phuket, waitresses have been unfriendly to my boyfriend, as he is of no use to them, having arrived with a third world girlfriend already in hand. Here in BKK I would say, the way they try to rip you off is shameless.

I'm very sensitive to the feeling that I am being completely taken advantage of, especially in places (Phuket, Bangkok) where the general public has a pretty decent standard of living. I didn't mind paying a bit more in Cambodia as a foreigner, as 1) 60% of the people live under a dollar a day...even Siem Reap is SO poor!2) they were generally friendlier 3) I didn't encounter one organized scam in my three days there...in my one day in BKK I've said no to two.

Having said that, the shopping is ridiculous and the food and flights from Singapore are incredibly cheap and I accept the fact that its their country and I choose to come here...doesn't mean I can't complain though!!!

Im not painting prostitutes. I AM painting JOHNS. Prostitutes are disease ridden, thats not a MORAL judgement, its simply a medical one. Especially in places like Thailand where the HIV rate is extremely high, not even mentioning other diseases. But Im not attacking them MORALLY. I am painting johns as hopelessly pathetic, sick losers. Because thats what they are.

HIV does not, quite obviously, cause AIDS.

If this entire HIV/AIDS hoax were even the tiniest bit true, you'd see Thai working gals dropping dead all over the place.

It ain't happening.

If you aspire to be an intelligent and well-informed person in today's very confusing world, rule number one is that you question EVERYTHING you read--especially when it comes from Big Media.

When they claim that "HIV" causes "AIDS," you should be demanding proof--as I am--while holding your own judgment in abeyance.

Yeah because hey, those thai women sold into brothels are free as a bird to choose what they want. This is seriously your position? Im actually not surprised you are for the enslavement of women, I always thought homosexuals were inately anti-women.

In my opinion unforced prostitution (he/she isn't forced to sell him/herself, can choose clients, receives 100% of the money etc.) is acceptable between two consenting adults.

At the same time I welcome Thailand's crack down on prostitution. I wish that they catch, try and sentence all those men who can't keep their hands off from children. I also would like to see that the prostitutes who are forced to "the oldest profession" will be freed and their pimps brought to justice. I know, I know. This is unlikely to happen.

OT: How come it's to so difficult for some people to behave on these boards? Many good topics have been torpedoed with childish name calling and outright slander. Sometimes I wonder how old some of the posters are... but then again, age doesn't necessarily make people any smarter. *sigh*

Slander has been the main tactic of Jinju and the naysayers who can't for the life of them distinguish between consenting paid sexual relations between adults and debt/bondange prostitution and/or child sexual abuse. Time and time again I have shown models of what I consider to be proper, as the example you gave above. He and his cronies resort to non-sequiturs, emotive language and the childish epithets of the playground. In turn I have also resorted to personal attack as it seems it is the only language he understands. Moreover he has failed to contribute one convincing argument. Prostitutes are dirty, smash the whole practise is redolant of arguing thus; "cars are dangerous, lets ban cars".

On one hand you have myself and others who have argued that the foreigner-oriented 'scene' in Thailand generally negates the worst aspects of prostitution as it is known in the West. All manner of evidence has been provided to that end. Then come the likes of Spinoza interjecting with his entire two weeks of vacation experience in Thailand, including a 'sexless' rendezvous with two working girls. He concludes from this mighty field of knowledge that sex workers in the Thai context contribute nothing to society and are worthless. At least he spins a good yarn. Jinju, on the other hand, has said nothing other than 'prostitutes and johns are disease ridden'. He possesses not even the wit to qualify it, perhaps stating that statistically they do encounter higher rates of STDs. His imput has been nothing short of worthless, for he can't even insert some kind of moral code to justify his loathing of what free adults consent to do. Lost at that point he resorts to "you supporters of prostitution just want to enjoy getting your rocks off with diseased hookers since you are all depraved filth". Finally, in the biggest playground endgame of them all, he attempts to link my supposed "alliance" to another poster, one who I have already stated my disagreement to his argument regarding AIDS, to some kind of fault in my reasoning. You tell me who in this context has been 'childish'.

Finally, seoulfinn, why do you not just support the erradication of child enslavement and sexual abuse by focussing on that very issue? Do you think if sex tourism were ended today that child prostitution and debt bondange sexwork would cease immediately? It wouldn't. The border brothels where teen Hill Tribe girls are bought and sold and will never have a white 'customer' would still exist. The truckstop knockshops that chain women to beds and bolt the doors would still service thousands of ordinary working Thais a day. Besides being something that could never be erradicated, doing so would not even touch the tip of the iceberg vis a vis the grossest abuses of women and children in Thailand. More to the point, why even focus on Thailand? Read the literature (I'm directing you to ECPAT and the like here) and see that the nonces are spreading their wings to places like Kenya, India, Sri Lanka and South America. They are the real problem spots for child abuse these days.

I'm still wondering why Singapore bans oral sex unless as a precursor to regular sex if prostitution is regulated by the state. This is the article I saw that gave me the impression that prostitution would be illegal too:

Quote:
Sending a 25-year-old former policeman to jail for 12 months for receiving oral sex from a teenage girl, Chief Justice Yong Pung How said that despite growing permissiveness in some countries there were "certain offences that are so repulsive in Asian culture".

"There are countries where you can go and suck away for all you are worth," the judge said.

"People in high places do it for all they're worth. I'm not an expert, but you read about it in the papers. But this is Asia."

Justice Yong was hearing an appeal by Annis Abdullah against the severity of his two-year prison sentence for receiving oral sex from a girl, originally described by prosecutors as 16 years old, but later revealed to be 15 and a minor. Under Singapore law, oral sex, anal sex and homosexual intercourse are defined as acts "against the law of nature" and punishable by up to 10 years in jail.

So then the reason is just that you don't do that in Asia? Maybe they just stuck it in there with homosexuality and didn't think about how much more frequent it is than the others when they made the law, who knows.

Oral sex is illegal in Indonesia now too, thanks to some draconian new sharia-inspired morality codes being rushed through compliant legislative organs by shady politicians. I can still take you a dozen places where you could get one (and not from me, by christ). Does that kind of answer your query?

If the answer is that the law doesn't make sense and was just instated in a half-assed attempt to promote morality then I guess that's the answer I'll have to accept. I had assumed there was a concrete reason for it though.
