Lots of stuff.
Coolest--pearls..black ones, white ones..
Goofiest: some sort of miracle dish towel. I still haven't figured out what's so miraculous about it...unless it works on its own. |

The very neatest: A space-age desktop piggybank. I'll take a photo later and post it here. God, how I love this thing. It has a liquid crystal display on the side of it that includes a clock, daily alarm, and a coin-counter. The coin-counter functions thusly: It detects the size and thereby the denomination of each coin (Korean currency only) that you put in the coin slot, and keeps a running total. It also lets you set a target amount -- I set it to 50,000 won. When you reach your target amount, the bank emits an alarm and permits you to remove a hatch on the bottom and retrieve your coins. It won't let you do that until you've reached your target. Well, there is apparently some means of removing the hatch prior to reaching your target, but the instructions are freakin' complicated (intentionally so), requiring you to press several buttons in unison, then release, then a different set of buttons for a certain number of seconds, and... bah... you'll go crazy. Anyway, it's the cleverest piggybank ever made and, by God, it's MINE!!! |

And I'm not exaggerating one little bit, Eamo. As (relatively) inexpensive a gift as I assume this piggybank is, it is my favourite present of this Christmas and of most Christmases since I was a kid. (I didn't really want to, but I just checked the price on the internet, in case you'd like to get one. It's under 25,000 won at some malls.)
You can see from the dimensions below, it's not too big for a desk. Holds upto 100k won! I had the IT guy over to the house last night (dead wireless router) and I had him convinced for a while it was some freaky stylish wireless internet access point!!

jongnoguru.....
i just tried to order one of those awesome banks for my husband (he takes great pride in saving his coins and separating them....)
i found the item on gmarket.co.kr and transfered it to their new english site and, if you can believe it, the "country" drop-down menu for shipping information does not have "korea" ! i guess i'll have to find a korean friend to help me with this.
thanks for the good idea, jongno! |
