I'm tired of hearing this "Korea has 4 distinst seasons" sh.ite from Korean people.
It dosn't matter if Korea has 20 seasons, they only seem to live as if theres' one.
It's Spring/Summer/Autumn(Fall)/Winter, what are you going to do:
Eat kimchi and rice, go to Noraebang, climb a mountain.
That's why expats struggle so much here in the Winter IMO:
There's no warm fires for basking beside. There's no seasonal change in the diet. They don't all suddenly start eating different food in the Winter.
It's bitterly cold but there's not a huge change in clothing. Hotties still going around in mini skirts (that parts ok,,but STILL disturbing).
I think thats' the problem. THere's this void where, we suddenly want to start eating more wholesome, more fatty food in the Winter, drink hot mulled wine or hot whiskey, wrap up wioth clothes, and generally do MANY different things and change our lifestyle for the different seasons.
It kills us inside to find we are still doing the same things often at Winter as we did in Summer, only its miserable because the same things are just not enjoyable in Korea in the Winter. Yeah yeah heay: skiing, beaches barbeques...all seasonal things but just not really embraced in Korea in the same way. I believe there's just not the same seasonal differences in Korea and many Western people find this hard to stommach in the Winter.
I was never a huge fan of Winter but I felt it more swallowable back home is all.
Correct me please if its not true. And No, I won't accept visiting the grave yard in Winter as part of Winter culture.
Anyway, without this shi.tty Winter they could look more like the hottie in my avatar - even though she's unacceptably dark in Korea ....

I would just be happy with snow...real snow 10 inches at a time. The kind of show where you got to get your boots on. Snowman, snowball fighting snow.
I am not from Canada but Nebraska. Would like to see a good old fashioned (preferably) non lethal mini blizzard. Leaving 5 or 6 inches of snow and 8 foot drifts.
You stay in side or go play in the snow.
4 seasons my nebraska buttt.

I have no idea what you mean by mulled wine, fatty food being wholesome, or wioth clothes.. but I will correct you on your assumption that Korea doesn't have seasonal food. 냉면 is typically a summer dish. As is 삼계탕. Not sure about the rest, but I imagine there's more. In contrast, I can't think of any specific winter or summer food from the US.

We non koreans have to remember....it's not our country/culture. We we not forced to come to korea. We can leave anytime.
I am not a defender of koreans/korea...but...to them.....what we find different/not normal/unusual/not like back home, etc.....is what makes them different. And we have to just accept that...or leave their country.
Sure....many things are FUBAR with koreans to other countries' ways of thinking.....but.....what can you do? Accept it or leave. |

| I change my lifestyle as the season fits. What the Koreans do, or don't do, during the season doesn't stop me from drinking whiskey, wearing different clothing or doing different things. |

Maybe you've been spending too much time in Thailand around the ladyboys, and you are now confused?
That's the cylon from Battlestar Galactica, man! I've no idea why she isn't a star/hero for Koreans, she's a central character on a popular TV show in the US.
I do have to add, it really is a sad thing to hear when a Korean tells you only Korea has four seasons. I can never get used to an adult being that oblivious/ignorant of the world. |

in korea, there is also chestnuts, goguma, ho-dduk, gyul in the wintertime
lots of koreans also wear nae-bok in the wintertime and other heavy clothes
many foods are very seasonal, kimchi is best right around kimjang season in the winter, shik hae in the summer and etc |

Do you know why Koreans feel it bears repeating to foreigners that Korea has seasons? Because dumbasses like most of the people here when they first started coming over in large numbers actually didn't know this. They thought Korea was like Vietnam and to most Westerners Asia equals steamy hot jungles. Ask the dumbassed loved ones you left behind and I guarantee most will think the same, only the ones who watched Mash might know different.
Fuckwad newbies and their damn repetive posts. Every winter like clockwork, eh. Come summer this same dumbass will do a fan death thread, something I've only ever heard waygooks talk about in the 11 years I've been in and out of Korea. |
