Well, my problem is that my director has put me under immense pressure to stay an extra month after the end of my contract because he has not found a new teacher yet. He doesn't seem to be able to take 'no' for an answer. So, stupidly maybe I gavehim a verbal agreement I would stay a while longer to help him out. He has since renewed my visa for another month. He still owes me 8 days paid holidy and in general I feel tht the school doesn't deserve to have me stay at their convenience purely as a favour to them.

My last day is supposed to be January 8th. My question is Which is the best way to get my director to allow me to leave on time with my bonus payment etc etc? (I don't need a return ticket)

You didn't just give him a verbal agreement. You must have done something to get your visa extended. I am pretty sure you have to sign something to get your visa extended.

I say work the extra month but say you want the last week off.

Demand and get your severance pay and last months pay in advance to avoid staying another month just in case your boss can't find the replacement and want you to stay another month.

And make sure that he figures in the severance for the extra month that you're staying.

Stay the extra month since it's on your visa. Either take the eight days of vacation owed to you, or get paid at the end. Talk to the director and settle on an agreement. You made it for 12 months; 20 extra working days (12, if you take leave), isn't going to make or break you unless you have another contract lined up.

If the pay and hours are on the low/crappy side, he may not have another teacher lined up at the end of this extension either. If he starts pressuring you to stay longer, get in his face until he understands the word NO!

You risk the director threatening to withold severance if you don't stay. Yeah, legally you will eventually get it, but he could make your life miserable for awhile.

Now -- if you didn't sign an extension of your contract -- he can't legally hold you. But, again - he can make your life bumpy.

Do what you can be comfortable with.

Tell him to f@ck off as you don't have anything in writing and if there's a problem..go to the labor board.

You agreed to stay the extra month and your school is now counting on you to do just that. You had to sign an extension agreement to get your visa extended, so you should honor your agreement. You cannot reasonably demand payment in advance as suggested above, so don't do it. It will create bad feelings and start the ball rolling for major conflicts. You haven't mentioned any other problems. Have you been paid in full and on time up until now? Do you have any reason not to trust your boss? His request that you stay, which you could have just refused, was reasonable, and your agreement to do it was a nice way to finish your contract. Why blow it now

Your 8 days holiday, by which I assume you mean your vacation pay and not national holidays, is another matter. You should go to your boss and ask for this to be paid in cash, or for him to allow you to take the last 8 working days during your extension. Since he doesn't have a new teacher yet, this could be a problem. So, insist on getting that in cash. That money you can request in advance, since he will not be allowing you to take those days. Again, this is not worth going to battle over, as long as he agrees to pay the cash at the end.

I signed a Visa extension for a month, I didn't sign an agreement to work one extra month. If a new teacher comes after two weeks (he has no idea when a new teacher will arrive) then he's not going to pay me for the rest of the month is he?

Umm....vacation days. They were part of your original contract. Those need to be sorted out before you continue working past your original contract date.
That, in addition to your separation need to be paid when you finish your original contract. Any extension is just that, an extension.
I dont' know what you relationship with your boss is, but if its' good, proceed as much as you trust. if it's not that good, I would get everything sorted from the original contract before working an extra day.
Yes, you agreed. But you also have an agreement in your original contract. They honor that, THEN you honor the second agreement.

I love these assclowns. They screw you over and expect you to bend over again.

Don't bend over again. The first time was ignorance on your part. The second time it happens...don't start a post hee a month later saying

OMG my boss screwed me again!!1!!one!!1

Good advice from Poet and Fak Yu Man.

Get everything that's been promised to you from the original contract first and then move on to the additional one month agreement. Otherwise, screw em and call the labor board.
