My undergraduate degree is in Music Ed, my graduate degree is in International Business, and I'm planning of starting this new ESL vocation off with a TEFL weekend course.

Yes, I know I won't have the ESL pedigree that some people here do but....I've got to get started somewhere.

I was wondering what relative newbies like me can do, as a practical matter, to improve our teaching skills once we get on the scene over there in Korea.

And I also understand (based on what I've read here) that there's a school of thought that says the requirements for the hagwon jobs really aren't that high but my philosoplhy is that it's always a good thing to be as competant as possible in order that the job be as easy as possible.

On this same subject, after I finish my first year over there and want to take a little vacation and also perhaps get another acedemic credential, what would you 'pros' suggest I do? I gather that some of these other ESL oriented courses are given in some pretty nice places.....like Thailand.

In this profession, does one ever get to the point where you're educated 'enough'?

I'm just trying to plan ahead.

It would be cool if a KOTESL person would post there USER ID here, so that we could PM them about meetings, conferences, etc.

By "KOTESOL person" I assume you mean an officer of some sort, or someone involved enough to know the answers to the questions others may have. There was a post a while back about the International KOTESOL conference, and a few people posted there. There should also be contact emails listed on www.kotesol.org

I am also willing to answer simple questions if I have the info.
