Chavez to shut down opposition TV

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has said he will not renew the licence for the country's second largest TV channel which he says expires in March 2007.
In an address to troops, Mr Chavez said he would not tolerate media outlets working towards a coup against him.

Chavez himself attempted to overthrow Venezuela's legally-elected govt via coup in 1992. This partly explains why he so persistently complains that everybody from Washington to the Vatican to a Venezuelan television station are moving against him.

Think of conniving, corrupt politicos and Third-World dictators accusing everyone else of plotting and dishonesty: they know how it works -- indeed, they work it themselves -- and thus feel wholly insecure...
