Getting home after midnight I mean.
I contacted the tourist hotline today. They told me that the subways will stay open a WHOLE EXTRA HOUR tomorrow! Wow! That's so generous! Now instead of 11:15 pm or 11:30 pm, the last train will be at 12:15 / 12:30 am. You'll have to wrap up your partying pretty fast after the New Year rings in.
Anyone here last year go out on New Years Eve? Was it hell getting home? Hard to get a taxi. Subways so crowded that you can't breathe? I am wondering if it's worth going out at all? |

Korea - the land of "reliable" information.
The Tourist Office KTO, today told me that tomorrow night's (New Years Eve) last subway trains will finish at 12:30 am.
I just took a look at the Seoul City website and it says 2:00 am.
I wonder if that will be all subway lines or just the ones in the city center? |

Last New Year's Eve, I was in Bundang for training. The yellow line out to Bundang was NOT running past midnight. |

You'd think in a city the size of Seoul, they could run the subways all night New Years Eve to curb drunk driving, but NO! |

Public drinking and drunk driving must be legal in Korea. |

i'm sure it will be hell for you. there will probably be people talking on mobile phones, drinking starbucks coffee, and wearing clothes with labels on them. you'd probably be better off staying home. |

The last New Years in NZ that I had in Queenstown brawls broke out from seeminlgy nowhere in the main drag. And in the pubs....and outside again.
A friend had a concert at that time in Invercargill and someones ear was bitten off at the bar.
New Year here?Tame and lame....that's fine.I've had enough death this month. |

The correct information is that the subways will close a t 12:30am for foreigners and 2:00am for normal people.

It's not as big a deal here as in the West. Korea is.....different.
Christmas and New Year's are imported traditions and don't resonate with a lot of people the way that Chusok and Solnal do. Even the Christians are Koreans first. |

koreans don't really give a crap about new years .... except the chinese one or sollal.
there are taxis in seoul and pretty cheap ... certain crowded areas can be difficult around the time the subway closes but if you wait until 2am or so it shouldn't be a problem. |

Call one about 30 minutes before your ready to go home as it may take that long for the taxi to show up. Sure, you'll have to pay KW 1,000 more, but at least you won't have to stand out in the cold hoping to get a cab that will take you where you want to go; the hotspots tonight will be full of people trying to get taxis, so the driver can choose which fare to take.
