Heya.
My sleep patterns have been way out of whack over the past few days due to having time off've work. Getting to bed at 4 or 5 a.m, and waking up at noon or 1.
I need to get back into a more diurnal sleep pattern and get to bed earlier, but I'm just not sleepy anytime before or around midnight, and can't actually relax and shut my eyes until at least 3 a.m.
How wise would it be for me to simply stay up all night, then hopefully be so exhausted by the following evening that I'll get to bed at a 'reasonable' hour? I've never done this before, curious as to whether it works.
Cheers in advance for any advice. |

I used to do this all the time back when I had jobs that started at a regular hour. It can work, though the belated sleep will be longer and leave you feeling more groggy than usual.
However if your insomnia is as bad as mine was, it can sometimes backfire. Sometimes I would stay awake all night hoping for sleep the next, and then fail to sleep the next night, leaving me feeling twice as much like crap as I otherwise would have.
Might be better to just go with the flow and endure the first day back being a bit sleep deprived. |

Sounds like you're a veteran. Cheers for the advice.
Yes, my gut instinct is telling me to just go to sleep 'naturally' and tough out the rough start. Thanks for the reassurance.
Speaking of which, now that it's 4 a.m. I think I'm getting sleepy enough to get some kip, might go have a lie-down Thanks again! |

You seem new to this problem. Just staying up 'til you're exhausted isn't going to hurt. It may not help much, though.
There are over the counter sleep aids. The most effective are simply antihistamines.
Soju (or other spirits) will make you sleep, and long. But I doubt that's a healthy sleep.
Dad always said lost sleep is lost. You can't make up for it. It will eventually take a toll.
I'm no doctor, but sounds like you're not chronic. Best of luck, sleepyhead!
