Hello all, new to the ESL game, got an offer in Yongin City Im considering, wanting to know if there is a social life to be had for a single guy there besides taking a bus to seoul every weekend. Im not a huge big city fan so I think itll be fine, wondering if there are a few things to do and a few pubs to hang out in without having to leave the city all the time. Im a smaller town guy but I like to do some socializing, and dont need the big city lights to be happy. Ive read a few threads that talked a little about it there, but Im wanting to see if anyone else can respond. Any comments are appreciated!

A youngin like yourself should have no problem approaching the first foreigner you see on the street and asking about what's happening. Of course, you're just as likely to hear a negative answer by a malcontent as you are to get genuine advice. But remember that you will find it easy to meet foreigners. A good friend or two can fill up your time pretty easily. (Mine moved to Busan, so that's why I'm hanging out at Dave's Cafe.)

And instead of going an hour north to the Big Smoke of Seoul, you could wander southward and check out the large expat community in Gwangju or Busan.

I have friends that live there and visit quite a bit... actually, I live fairly close to Yongin....

It's a fairly big city, but much of it is rural or small townish in feel... The downtown Yongin area has many clubs, bars, shopping, etc... The Suji and Shingal, areas in northern Yongin are fairly well developed with the standard high rise apartments, shopping, bars, clubs....

The further south you go, the further away you get from Seoul... This means less development, more farms, and fewer foreigners.

Everland Amusement Park and the Korean Folk Village are in Yongin.

It really depends on you and what you want.... Yongin is a pretty diverse place and has the benefit of being about an hour away from Seoul....

I live near Shingal, it's a reasonably nice quiet area with a lot of new development. It's really well connected to Seoul by bus and it takes around 45 minutes to get to Gangnam.
You're also close to the Yong-Tong area of Suwon, a new development area which is supposedly in the process of becoming a really classy and prestigious neighbourhood.

................

That's what Yongin city is like. The parts I've seen, anyways. But it's closer to Seoul than Cheonana at any rate.

Yongin area is pretty cool, you can get to Seoul, Kangnam etc within 40-45mins, and to be honest I think the cost of living etc is so much cheaper out here, plus I've noticed that I'm making a helluva lot more money than most of my friends living nearer Seoul.....its all good!
