Hi.

I have two long bamboo practice swords for gomdo training, as well as a wooden longsword. I want to bring them home to New Zealand with me when I leave but I'm not sure what the best way of doing so would be.

Can the Korean Postal Service send long/large objects overseas? Do they provide boxes for such items (just over a metre long each)?

I could perhaps try to bring them back to NZ with me personally, but they won't fit in my travel pack. Has anyone had experience with strapping/tying on extra items to their check-in luggage? I'm skeptical as to the feasibilty of this...

Thanks for any input, much appreciated.

there's no way an airline is going to let you strap a long sword to your carry on.
It shouldn't be hard shipping them home, find a UPS.

I have been working on this issue for some time as well. The Korean post has told me they will not send oversized parcels anywhere.

Heh, indeed, perhaps I should change the first word to 'ramming'.

OK, so, posting said items is difficult and I should find a UPS.

Cerebroden : I didn't mean strapping the swords on to my carry-on luggage, I meant strapping them on to my check-in luggage (stored in the cargo hold).

They can take them with your checked luggage the same as they can take a hockey stick.

You can also mail items like that via Korea post air-parcel service.

Maximum combined dimensions for mailing the package must be less than 2 meters. [ length + (2 x width) + (2x height) ] < 2 meters.

Just tie (bundle with packing tape) them together and then wrap them in brown paper (from your stationary shop) and you should be fine.

Excellent. Cheers for the heads-up.

So, in this case I wouldn't need a box? Just tape 'em and wrap 'em?

tape em together, wrap them in brown paper and packing tape and drag them down to the post office.

Depending on the weight it will probably cost you about 30k won for air parcel, a bit more for EMS.
