I went to BrixX last night, and that's probably one of the coolest little lounges I've been to in Korea. In fact, it felt as if I wasn't even in Korea, but some futuristic version of Korea. This place plays very nice electronic music, has a small DJ setup, a wide variety of drinks including good beers, nice seats, hot girls, and even more impressively... hookahs! (umm..the smokable variety)... The food is chic middle eastern cuisine, and it seems a real middle eastern chef. This place really surprised me...

What are some other cool little lounge-type places? I want to see more of this!

THe Bricx in Itaewon is also chill, but has fewer hookah's available, only has hummus on the menu, and is smaller, but the atmosphere is still good.

In Hongdae, there is a hookah bar called Gr8 near Bricx that has more flavors of hookah. If you exit Bricx, turn right. When you hit the main road in about half a block, it is across the street and above Ska.

The recruiter who started Brix in I'taewon is an unpleasant type who can be a real donkey. She also had a Canadian bartender in Summer, 2005 who looked liked he was of Lebanese, Syrian, or Palestinian heritage.

You state that the Korean recruiter is an "unpleasant type", and that "she also" employed someone "of Syrian, or Palestinian descent" as a bartender... Your phrasing seems to imply that (in your opinion...) people of Middle-eastern descent aren't fit to tend bar ...

Sorry for giving you this impression; I was going with the flow of the thread.

She was a really intemperate and unethical individual when I knew her, eh.

Oh, I should mention I went to the BrixX in Hongdae. I hear it is much better than the one in Itaewon.

I met the owner of Bricx in Itaewon and she was pretty cool to me.. let's not pass judgment and start calling people 'recruiters'!

Are you talking about the chick with the fake rack? She was pretty cool when I went there too. Even gave me a free shot of Jager.

Near by the brix in hongdae is a place called nabi. They have a bunch of hookahs and a really cool atmosphere. It's worth checking out.

I've never met her, but the girl who started BricX in Itaewon was a recruitor, which I know for a fact since I was on her mailing list for about a year. She ("Susan"?) cleverly advertised and promoted the bar to all the EFL teachers on her mailing list.

When I got my first teaching gig in Korea it came down to choosing between one of her clients or dealing directly with a crazy director. I chose the latter evil - after I got the impression that she might be too much of a hustler (though she had a husky sexy voice on the phone and tried to convince me that I was "special"...)

Both the Brix are good.
I have been to both and they're both good.
So good.
I mean, all those candles......it would never get past H&S in the UK.

I've only ever been to the one in itaewon. How do I get to the one in Hongdae? (idiot-proof directions if possible)

Exit Seongsu station, exit 1, and walk toward Hongik University. You should be on the left hand side of the road. When you get to the 7-11, turn left before the 7-11. Bricx will be on your left about a block down.
