I don't mind teaching the camps as mind tend to be short and the school lets me do whatever I want.
However things my minder forgot to do:
1. Assign a classroom for the camp to be in. As my school is having construction done through it, the classrooms that aren't having work done in them are being used as storage facitlies for the classroom furniture from other classes. First part of my morning was spent lugging stuff out of a classroom.
2. Find students until I reminded her. End result is that I have 6 students.
3. Construct a 철석 so I didn't have the forms necessary to complete the paperwork to keep the powers-that-be happy.
Good god I hate having my time wasted. |

This seems like a trivial complaint. It is much more important to just HAVE a winter camp. Actually getting warm bodies rounded up to be IN the camp is pretty optional in my opinion.

| Tomorrow apparently I'm starting a 3-day 'camp' with 56 grade 1 HS students. I don't know what classroom(s) we'll be in or what time of day I'll be seeing them. I think they're divided into two groups with a 45-minute lesson for each. That's about all I know. Oh well, even if it all goes to pot I'm going to Thailand the day after it ends so who cares? |

Best approach is just to have fun with it..not take it too seriously.
It is vacation after all. |

My winter classes were cancelled due to student indifference-ie only 1 student signed up.
I still have to sit at school 9-5 for the next 2 weeks.Have received that instruction from the principal and 부장 님(?)
아이구.....ㅡperhaps I can rope a student(still a few wandering around the school)into being a chess/ping-pong partner. |

I have been lucky mine was pretty well set up. Had about 50 sign ups and getting 65 to 85 percent depending on the day.
However my principal decided he just had to get involved. I have always run my camps 8:30 to 12:30 with 1 to 3 classes depending on the sign up.
Well he decided that I should be here longer. So my classes are 1 hour and 20 minutes and start at 9:00 but I have to be here at 8:30 until 1:20 5 hour which is not the norm. 4 hours has always been the norm.
Major BS but I only teach 15 days so I don't care but I would like them to see them try to make a Korean teacher work past the "holy" lunch hour. By the time I am finished it is at least 1:30 if not later.
I can't be too mean he had a heart attack and is in the hosptial. So I guess I shouldn't be too biatchy. But it does tick me off.
I get to do what I want as long as the paper work is in order and they have something to show people.
Sometimes this is just a wierd place.

That totally sucks! From his hospital bed, in heart-attack-recovery mode, he was busy thinking up ways to interfere with your camp?!?! |

He is a P.I.A. but he did manage to do this before he left on MT. He had heart attack while they were eating lunch. Freaked me out cuz they just dropped him off at the hospital and continued with the trip.
Ah ya got to love korea.

i have two levels intermediate and advance for middle school winter camps (but most are all at the same level) the students are so far coming at whatever time slot they feel like, as well there is 3 students in my later class that cannot read "I" and "a" heck they are not familiar with the alphabet in general thus they would be considered very low beginners wouldn't they?
should I say something to someone? because everything I have planned for the camps would be way to hard for them and I don't want to make them feel dumb. Today they already did as the others got it and explained to them (in Korean), yet they still sat there not understanding. |

Really? They make you stay all day even when you have camp classes? I'd be all like, "ATTICA! ATTICA! ATTICA!" |

Well two days in, I've had 11 students in one class and I had about 18 today. Not too bad, as same lesson (english olympics) everyday.
Annoying thing is they have all turned up 25 minutes late on both days and then moaned when the class went over time so I could finish all the opportunities....
Still, only here from 1.30 - 3.30 - beats the 8.10 - 4.10 anyday....
Make the most of it you guys... |
