Perhaps it would work as a motivational technique to show on a graph how much more plastic surgery the average educated person could buy.

I was shocked to find that Korean job resumes require a photo.

What does a photo has any bearing to job skills/qualities?

Well plus you're not in the country so they want to make sure everything is in the proper place on your body.. if u have a physical deformity there is no chance of getting hired

Yeah there was someone who posted a story on here about a guy who did not get hired (or was fired, not sure..) because he had a lazy eye.

Surprised the Korean figure isn't LARGER.

But I don't think that two-thirds of Chinese are consumed by style. Maybe in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Taipei, and Shenzhen but no way more than the Japanese youth. Ain't buying that.

I'm surprised that this is such a big deal. When did looking presentable, well-groomed, healthy, or handsome/beautiful become connected to narcissism? It's kinda sad the way most Americans carry themselves, especially the young.
Wasn't all too long ago a man didn't walk the streets without a tie and jacket.

A man wearing a jacket and tie is much more preferable than draws hang'n to the knees, boxers shown to the world and butt-crack or thongs show'n.

Although I don't necessarily label this youth trend narcissistic, it used to annoy me the way so many American kids were into designer labels. When I was in high school, everyone wore Levi's or Lee's and we were content with that. Now you see adults getting into the act, too.

It's one thing to want a certain label for it's superior quality and another to crave it (and its logo) for name value only. We used to tear off our Levi labels and did our stonewashing the old-fashioned way--by wear and tear. It's such a fake marketing ploy.

But I find Korean youth and many adults consumed with this persona crappola, too.

On the other hand, I've never heard of someone getting jumped because of the way they're dressed.

Korean students care more about their looks? Why should they? I mean in middle and high school they wear identical uniforms, have very similar hairstyles, and study a lot more than the students at home. The way I see it, their philosophy is to look like everyone else, and postpone their looks until they are at least university students.

I remember at the beginning of the school year, seeing a couple girls on a Friday evening that looked to be around high school age, but without uniforms. They had frizzy pink hair and were smoking while waiting for a bus. I just wanted to cheer them on for being so boldly different. Before I go home I really would like to see the segment of Korea that doesn't give a ship about English, that challenges the values of Korean society, and does whatever the hell they want with their appearance.
