| That's what real teachers do, talk about education. Rarely do they get the time to do anything else. I do agree that talking about teaching all day gets boring, but its still better than listening to someone complaining or bragging all day. |

I thought the list was going to say things like:
1) Teachers speak slowly and over-enunciate.
2) Teachers repeat everything at least two times.
3) Teachers carry pens and correct grammar on shop signs.
4) Teachers correct other people's grammar when they are speaking.
I would have agreed with a list like that. Can't argue with truth. But the OP's list is silly. |

Haha...reading this thread makes me think that there are a lot of young people out there and this teaching gig is their first job.
Teachers talk about teaching? Haha. Here's a universal truth for ya. People spend their lives talking about 2 things: 1) their jobs, 2) whatever else they are passionate about.
Every night at the dinner table as a child, I listened to my father tell mundane stories about the furniture/appliance store he worked at. While in university I worked part-time at a law firm, and what did lawyers talk about ALL the time? Their work. You know what a stay-at-home moms talk about when they get together? Usually their children and parenting issues. People everywhere talk about their jobs. And people everywhere in every position whine and complain about the boss or how they're getting the shaft. I spent a summer working on an assembly line in a factory. Now there you would find some REAL complaining...and yet a majority of the conversation was about the workplace.
People also talk about what they're passionate about. For many this can be religion, sports, politics, or relationships. Let's face it, in today's world their aren't alot of great philosophical conversations to be had. Most people live simple lives and that's what they discuss.
I once sat with a bunch of ESL teachers who decided that in their off-time they didn't want to talk about work. Cool, I thought. What did they spend their time talking about? Drinking, beer, getting drunk...hmmm |

1. No sense of humour.
2. Takes self far too seriously (why??)

Aren't these the same? Can anyone teaching or living here survive long if this is the case? If I couldn't laugh at myself and other silly things I would have been carted off in a wheelbarrow to the nuthouse long ago. |
