Unless you are making a huge amount of money, $75,000 I think, you won't be paying any tax.

Ummm...is it a private lesson if you do not accept money? I would be shocked to learn that language exchanges (I teach you English, you teach me Korean) are illegal, and doubly shocked to learn that volunteering without compensation is illegal.

Don't you find you are teaching at least a little almost any time you speak to a Korean in English? Aren't you also learning from them? Teaching and learning need not be so formal or involve a classroom or money. They just happen all the time. I don't see how one could get in trouble for teaching for free, especially online. Illegal volunteering? How crazy is that? (though someone did mention about orphanages I believe)

You cannot teach, for money or not, privately.

That's the law.

How about we don't call it teaching? Let's call it helping a friend. Is that OK? I guess that's up to immigration if they find out you are helping your friend. What if you were helping your friend learn something else?

What a silly law.

i heard it is up to you to prove you are really teaching for free, there is no burden on them to prove you are getting paid for it.

if you are american, you should not be paying any taxes for your first two years.

8% is high, should be about 3%.
