| I've recently received a guitar and would like to learn how to play. I'd like to hook up with someone who would be interested in giving some lessons. |

| Hey, try the Fender (guitar company) website to get you started. They have a whole series of lessons that you can do by yourself. That should get you started until you can find a teacher. |

Memorize the chord fingerings first. They are pretty much everywhere, just search for guitar chords online. After you've memorized the chords and your fingers can find them and you don't need to think about it, get a teacher. |

4 tips for the new guitarist (all material is available online!):
- learn the 'cowboy' chords (E, A, D, G, C, F), in both major and minor forms
- learn the barre chords with the root note on the 6th (biggest string) and 5th strings... knowing this simple form is important because it allows you to play ANY chord on the guitar!
- learn the pentatonic box form... this gives you the foundation to play lead guitar parts!
- google '(your favorite band) guitar tab' or, better yet, buy a guitar tab book of your favorite band at a music store (make sure it's 'tab' and not some 'easy guitar' crap - learn the real stuff) and play along to your favorite cds... you'll be surprised how easy most rock songs really are!
don't be afraid to ask questions and meet other guitarists! it's the best way to improve your playing and stay motivated... |

Where's I-am-me?
He's a guitarist, I've seen him on stage. Talented, and a patient gentleman.
I also got a guitar for Christmas, but haven't played since taking lessons in middle school.
Thanks, ernie!! You make it seem so easy. heh. |

How are the prices of acoustic guitars compared to back in the West?
I want to get one. Where's the best place in Seoul to buy one? How much am I looking at? |

I just started myself recently...
I've seen acoustics in just about every musical shop in Korea. And the price is dependent upon the brand, but everything seems to be a few hundred range, so you wont go broke getting one.

F is still proving a problem for me. But I'm getting better at C. My fingers are just too stubby.
Any hints for getting the strumming rhythms down? |

And follow the 4 tips in the order ernie has posted them. Also, try different strumming patterns (up and down) while you learn the "cowboy chords". |

There's a huge music instrument market in Seoul (near Chonglo-3-Ka, right?). Check for a used Crafter guitar. It's an increasingly popular Korean brand in North America. Great guitars for the price.
Or you could PM Harpeau. He buys, repairs/sets up, and then sells used guitars. I'm sure he's got something that will fit in your budget. |
