Thanks

a year ago a friend of mine paid for half a container and had the moving company pack up their house. I think it cost them a couple of million for packing and shipping.

I would like to know more as well. I'd pack a container full of "household items" and ship them back to Canada...

i've been told it can be done for less than $1000 to rent a container or half a container. but i think that's if you pack it yourself. moving company would charge $$$

How big is a container? Do you physically transport it from your shop to the airport?

You can fit quite a bit in one of those containers, and if you can find something here with a higher value back home you can make a profit, or you can get stuff you need cheaper...

often you don't rent the whole container. you rent a portion (ex 50%) of it. that'd be ample and cheaper.

as for transporting things for sale, customs in each country will check privately rented containers. items that are imported for possible resale (cars, electronics, etc) are often subject to import taxes. many items are exempt if you can prove you've owned them for 12 months.

WOW! If the cost of shipping from Korea is this cheap than I'm seriously going to consider moving my stuff from here(Korea) to the USA.

Three months ago I shipped a container from NZ to the US; container, packing crew of six, transportation, US customs documentation, and insurance came to $17,000.

Just out of curiosity, what would the Korean company charge for the same service?

They also have smaller containers - like a 20 foot. And if you hook up with a broker he may rent you 1/2 the container.

Your best bet is to call a local broker and talk to them. there is alot of paperwork involved and it's not really something you can do yourself.

ie - you need to hire a professional to get you the container.

What they do is a truck brings you the container on a trailer, then you load it and they come pick it up when done and send it to customs, the ship yard, then it makes it's why to the destination, where it will go through customs, then they delivery it to your home where you unload it.
