The big ones, not the dinky ones.

by "big", do you mean the box or the individual fruits?

In my opinion, the size of the box doesn't affect the flavor of cardboard.

Uh, they're not tangerines, but Mandarin oranges, dude.

The smaller ones are generally sweeter, but if you want the best you'll have to take a slow boat to China, bypassing Jeju.

I thought they were either clementines or tangerines. Aren't Mandarins a bit bigger and thicker skinned?

Anyway, a big-arse box is about 10,000

Think about the size of the box of any fruit before you buy it. If you are buying for only yourself, buy the smaller size box. If you buy the bigger one, you'd better be very hungry or else you will lose money to spoilage.

The bigger tangerines come from Jeju, and are very tasty.
They have a funny wee top on them?
Correct name is Han La Bong, but Koreans promounce this as Hallabong!

Maybe a little expensive, but most tasty.

I haven't tasted the cardboard, but I assume it similar to other cardboards readily available.

You mean the mascot is a stone figure aka. "stone grandfather" in Jeju dialect. Also known for its afrodisiac qualities if you touch the figure (look at the hat Wink)

The fruit does not have the hat though.

I think they're called kam kyul(Persimmon mandarins)

I've had dozens of them of late.

What I really miss are nashi pears. So sweat and juicy.Korean pears are just carboard.

Hold up.Hallabong?I saw a box of 9 going for 27k in a Yangjae supermarket at the weekend.

I'm no orangologist, but I'm pretty sure these things are called 귤 in Korean. According to the dictionary, that translates to 'a mandarin (orange); a tangerine'. Are they the same thing? shrug..

Yeah, 귤 pretty much covers what we call satsumas and tangerines.

And 5000 is the exception ; 10,000 being the norm.

I just got a box from a truck on the streets for 7000. Tangerine dreams await spin and his students next week.

ALL:

The more pressing question is whether indeed there is NO word in English that rhymes with "orange."

Tangerines, as I've eaten them even in Korea, are larger and have a different taste than mandarin oranges.

Small Mandarin usually sell for more, not less. Many street vendors are asking upwards of 12,000 to 15,000 W for a small box.

So 7,000 W is a good price.
