When I was working, my wife (who's unemployed) and I were saving about 800K out of a 1.8 salary, plus about 150K interest on a term deposit. Not exactly livin' large, but not scrimping too badly. |

My husband and I make a total of about 3.8 million a month. We send home about 2.7 and live on a million or a little extra. Sometimes I think we spend too much in Korea....but we spend less now than before we got married! |

If I didn't keep buying things, I'd save a lot. That's my motto. Stuff rocks. |

I sit down the start of each month and budget to put away about 1.2 a month. however, as the month progresses I need this, or this looks good,etc.etc. so it usually boils down to about 700 000 which is not to bad.
the Z man said it, stuff rocks. I'm a material man defianntly living in a material world(or country of Korea). |

saving? I mean its going to do be spent one way or another!
you save it here and live like a hermit so you can return home to canada or where ever and put down on a house! or buy a car.. great.
back home its back to paying rent, paying TAX paying everything..
here its free rent, no tax, and live like a hermit..
I save money well I think I do.. but I always buy something that I want..
like a video camera, or computer, car, putting down money next year for a house.. trips around asia... I mean cant save for ever and not spend anything,, life is to be enjoyed. if you live your life being afraid of spending money you will live your life with nothing.
I didnt realize so many teachers came here because they couldnt make money back home and this was their only way to make a living..
save every cent they got then return home..
I came as I thought most did was because its an adventure something new MONEY NEVER brought me here.. I didnt care how much I was making I just wanted the adventure and party good times home is home and when I get back there I will deal with it...
sure its smart to have some dollars put away..
all comes down to future plans.. why are you saving is the question!!? |

You'd be better off not making so many assumptions.
I was making four times the salary I make here when I was living in Australia (I'm Canadian), although, granted, I paid a lot of tax and rent. I came back here to Korea because I enjoy teaching, and I thought my wife would enjoy living here again for a while. I've been travelling for 15 years, but I'm not an idiot. If I want to retire somewhere pleasant before I'm 45 (ie in the next 9 years), I'd better save, while enjoying life.
I know guys my age who've never saved a cent, and just bought all the useless toys they wanted. Those guys'll be working for someone else until they die, most of 'em. |

I was living t up in Incheon and still found it easy enough to save one million a month. Beer is cheap and so are the restaraunts. Some months you have to scrimp a little, but for the most part it's pretty easy to save a million. |

its fairly easy to save a million a month. I'm over going to itaewon and drinking every weekend, so I can normally save a touch more, around 1.2 max. |

We manage to save about 2.4 million a month.
I make a good wage and my wife also works. We live on 1.5 million a month and travel once a year outside of Korea. Its all about planning.
I have been here over 5 years and paid back my student loan after a little over a year here. This cleared up lots of room for saving. We also put money down on a house back in Canada which I now rent while living here. Its basically paying itself off with us having very low morgage payments to put in.
I agree with the saving and enjoying life. You have to plan for the eventual retirement because no one else will do it for you these days. |

I save around 2.2 a mth guess it depends on your job and where you live, and I'm still left with 700,000 to play with.....so its all good..... |

Save? I knew I was forgetting to do something. I'm liquored us on cheap soju, but its the accompanying meals and beers afterwards that add up to multiple dips into my paycheque to the point that I end up in a PC bang emailing Dave's and feeling rich with a ten spot. I could save a million a month if I didn't send any to family or needy friends, or take trips, or buy obscenely priced clothes just because I doubt whether I'll find others around here for big and tall guys. Budget and a million is easy to do; don't budget and it's a witch with a b. |
