I've been doing some video editing today and man does my computer blow. it's freakin slow and driving me nuts.

Anyhow I'm going to suck it up and deal with it until summer when hopefull the quadcore prices are reasonable and invest in a computer that will last 4-5 years rather than the 2.5 I've managed to suck out of this bucket of bolts...

What is in your "bucket of bolts" (besides bolts!)?

64mb radeon 7000 card
1gb ram
700gb HDD

a few dents in the case from me kicking the damn thing in frustration.

I'd say that's your problem. My work computer has a celeron 2.4 and it's a donkey too.

You could wait for the Quadcore chips to come down in price or you could get cooking right away with a very reasonably priced Dual-core chip.

Exactly why I'm waiting until summer - quadcore all the way and a mother board that will handle 8cores so I can upgrade in the future. I'm planning on spending around 1.5million on a new machine (no monitors - already have two) and hope it will be usable for a much longer time.

total drive space - not one single drive.
