...will be no more if the Korean government has got anything to do with it.
Perhaps I remember a user trying to pedal those phones on this board here last spring or so.
If you've got a $50 phone, you got scammed.

Fake Anycall Phone Producers Busted
Police have busted a business that manufactured and sold fake mobile phones. Hyewha Police Station in Seoul booked the head of company called M Networks identified as Park (3 and 13 other executives and staff on charges of assembling made-in-China plastic bodies and used parts to produce 20,000 counterfeit mobile phones, mostly of the successful Samsung Anycall series worth W1.1 billion (US$1=W931).
The fake phones were so similar to the real thing that it was hard to tell the difference with the naked eye. The only differences were that the fakes were a little less shiny and a little harder to slide open.
Park and the others set up a company selling communication devices in March last year and started producing fake Anycall phones from used phones that were broken, damaged by water or exported to China and putting them in made-in-China bodies, police said. They sold them for around W100,000 via mobile phone dealerships nationwide and online shopping malls. Samsung Electronics authentic Anycall or SCH-S140 models cost up to W300,000. Anycall phones accounted for some 70 percent of the fake phones they made, and other brands for the rest. Police seized about half a ton of goods including 450 finished products, 6,000 made-in-China bodies and 3,500 batteries. |
