|
|
Hey,
I'm making a lesson plan for a camp, and there are some (18) videos from youtube I want to use.
I have them saved in my favorites and stuff, so I can cue them up like that if I'm online, but I'm thinking about plan B. That is, if the computer and tv aren't available one day, or there's a problem with the setup.
So the question is, is there a way to download a youtube video? If there is, I will drop them on my laptop, and take that to camp as my backup.
Thanks. |

| There is a way to do it; I've read the solution on another forums site. Can't remember how it's done though. Perhaps a google search will help? |

Hey... I found the thread in the forum and will just cut and paste it in here.
.....................................................................
FLV Downloader (YouTube, Google Video etc)
Found this site that lets you download videos from a whole bunch of sites like YouTube. Made by some guy on the subfighter.com forums. Very easy to use, just paste the link and click download.

Here is another

.....................................................................
You can get VideoDownloader as a handy extension for Firefox which grabs embedded content (including from Google and YouTube). It's more convenient than a separate application.

Thanks for the link. I just added the program to my mozilla browser
.....................................................................
For opera users and youtube videos just go to your cache (menu bar - "help" - "about opera" and it will tell you where to find it) the youtube video will be the largest items in there, view the page by details and rank according to size and you can easily find them. Rename and save them where you want. Vlc player plays them fine without haveing to reencode them.
.....................................................................
Does anyone know the way to get URL of a flash video?
Most links to websites in this thread support flash video but there seems to be a problem getting the links to those videos.

With Mozilla -
View the page source - with your browser - that the video is on.
Go to edit - click find - and type in the extension your looking for.

I'd also recommend getting Flashgot for Firefox and then combining that with Flashget or another download manager. That way you can grab any element of a site (including some embedded video, audio and swf) without needing to search through the source code.

Mate I think that one finds the text on the page, not the links perhaps.

Thanks mate
I tried this with youtube. And it gives you a .flv (flash file iirc)
What now ? Does it only play in FLV Player? Is there a way to convert to mpeg-2/avi/anything else ?
Found this to convert Not Free though. Anything free ?

The source code is everything the website contains, including embedded flash objects (that aren't linked to directly). If you want to download an embedded flash object, search for "swf" in the source code as it's the extension for flash objects. When you find the .swf at the end of a url, that's the one you're after. Then all you need to do is paste that url into a download manager and away you go.

Vlc plays them without a hitch. There are a few dodgy conversion tools around but I haven't yet found a perfect one. Try this one if you like, it converts to mpg.
