Does anyone know where I can get tickets for the qualifying matches for the Asian Cup of Soccer to be held in Jeonju on Sept 27th? |

"Asian Cup of soccer"... you speak Korean!
(No I don't know where to get tickets)
Actually, I guess it should read "Asian Cup of the soccer", then it would be right, right

Chances are these games aren't going to sell out so it probably won't be hard to pick tickets up on the day.
The KFA website says the 3 South Korean games will be played in Incheon, perhaps the other matches are in Jeonju.
Game dates:
25th Sept: South Korea v Vietnam (Incheon)
27th Sept: South Korea v Oman (Incheon)
29th Sept: South Korea v Nepal (Incheon)
For those interested (and with a wee bit of money to spare), there is a "return" part of the tournament in Oman during October |

What is this tournament in aid of??? Is it part of qualifying for the proper Asian cup or what??? The problem these days with soccer is that there too many of these meaningless tournaments that put stress on good players and thin out the playing pool. The peace cup, while it did draw in good teams was one of these so-called tournaments. If the Korean team(was it Seongnam) or LA Galaxy weren't playing then they would crowd would maybe be 20%. I love soccer but the expansion of Champions league, etc. makes me angry. |

It would make a lot more sense to have the games in Daejeon and Jeonju.
I know the Daejeon Citizen have had by far the biggest average attendances of all K-league clubs, and it's about time they were rewarded with an international game in their city. The fans were pretty annoyed they didn't get the K-league All-Star game at their stadium, in fact there's quite a lot of anger at Seoul getting pretty much all the big games when there's no actual league team in the city (hopefully that'll change next season).
The Football Asia website is probably the more up-to-date one, as the Korean Football Association couldn't run a bath, never mind a football league.
But that's another matter entirely... |

The Peace Cup was a waste of perfectly good K-league time, just as the All-Star match was.
Very few Koreans seem to give a fupp about football except when it comes to the national team. These are the stats for attendances at the 29 league matches this season:
Team averages and city population in brackets
1 Daejeon 21,538...(1,423,000)
2 Jeonbuk 14,816...(555,000)
3 Anyang 12,940...(748,000)
4 Daegu 12,228...(2,369,000
5 Suwon 10,524...(957,000)
6 Ulsan 10,008...(838,000)
7 Jeonnam 9,754...(571,000)
8 Seongnam 8,540...(1,111,000)
9 Pohang 8,388...(408,000)
10 Bucheon 6,569...(987,000)
11 Gwangju 6,424...(1,406,000)
12 Busan 3,260...(3,504,000)
Daejeon and Jeonbuk have the 2 highest average attendances, so it would make sense for them to have the Asian Cup of Nations qualifiers as some sort of "reward".
All this information (and more) can be found at the Busan Icons English Message Board. |

Thanks for the info.. I wondered why the team seemed a little weak. What will make me laugh is if Korea loses the qualifiers because the big team in Europe won't let go of their Korean players(perhaps they are but I doubt it being the start of the season) so the talent pool has been thinned out to a B team. Vietnam might provide a bit of a challange but I should imagine Oman and Nepal will provide little problems. However, those Middle east teams usually do alright. |

Maybe the K-League should do what the J-League and MLS do. They should bring out the big bucks get some big name player from Europe that are few year from retirement and want to pad their retirement fund. It kind of works in Japan, but it does work in the MLS. But, I guess it helps the MLS that their or so many Central and South Americans in the states.
Also, I think the european club teams are required to release the players for World Cup qualifiers. They release South American players all the time for quailifiers and even friendlies. |

I think they missed the boat somewhat in terms of pre-season friendlies they could have had.
Yes we had the Peace Cup here, but very few Koreans would have any real knowledge of Lyon, Besiktas, 1860 Munich, Club Nacional de Futbol, Kaiser Chiefs or LA Galaxy (except for the fact Hong Myong-Bo plays there). PSV are famous for their Korean connection.
Clubs such as Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid were touring Asia this summer and played games in almost every "major" Asian country except Korea... Putting together an all-star K-league team to face Real Madrid or Manchester United would have been an infinitely more exciting prospect than the usual all-star format.
It would be a great idea if the K-league were to look at bringing some big-name players over to finish their career, but there are very few players who would actually be high-profile enough here to encourage folk to go to the games. Players such as Steffan Effenberg, Franck Lebeouf, Romario, Fernando Hierro and Gabriel Batistuta have all very recently gone to play in Qatar for ridiculous amounts of money. All fantastically big names in Europe, though would they even feature on the Korean radar if they were to be here?
The lack of interest and low standard of the K-league is a wee hobby-horse of mine... if I ever get my act together, the KFA and the K-league are in for a right good ear-bashing |

Holyjoe,
The problem is that korea isn't a major asian country. Why would you bring your team here when Japan or China or either side. |

Why bring your team to Vietnam, Cambodia or Taiwan in that case?
In footballing terms Korea is the #1 country in Asia, both in international and club football... |

Holy Joe, i think you miss the point. in terms of fan numbers and revenue(and T-shirts sales, etc.) Japan and China have got it way over Korea. There is a no way korea is a major player compared with these two countries. It's all about the money now. |
