Hello All,
I will be arriving in Tae Min Hanguk on Jan. 12th
Something I totally forgot to ask my predecessor
I wanted to know if elementary schools are off right now, meaning no classes, the kids are not there, etc.
Just occurred to me that they will have to get me out of school to get my ARC, bank account, etc. set up.

(I think you mean Dae Han Min Gook)
Yes, public schools are are vacation right now. (Late December to March 2). However, most of them have 'winter vacation classes' for a few weeks. For example, I've been off since Dec. 29 but will go back between Jan. 9-24 for vacation classes, then off till Feb. 28. Some schools require the teacher to come in to the office during the time when there are no classes, others don't.
The question you need to be asking your boss is when you will actually begin teaching. You're arriving the 12th; the new school year will begin (probably) March 2. Will you be teaching vacation classes? (Most likely you will or they wouldn't be bringing you over before late Feb.) Even if you will be teaching, getting your ARC won't be a problem. The school will re-arrange the schedule so you can get your ARC and teach the required number of classes. |

| Where do you usually stand to make more money? In the public schools or hagwons? I will be making around 2.4 million at my hagwon, but I will be working on three Saturdays. It may not be the best, but I was too uncertain about my situation at the time and my timing was not quite right at the time. I hearing conflicting information on how much money you can make working those schools. Generally, I hear they only pay 2.1 million. I heard from some there is little overtime and some say there is a lot of overtime. Now, I am one who doesn't mind overtime if it gets me to like 2.6 million won. Are there public schools that provide housing in the Seoul area or even Asan area? |

the reason i chose a public school is that there are shorter working hours, and generally its a much safer bet than a hagwon.
Ill be making 2.3 mill and there is chance of overtime to bring it up to 2.8-2.9 mill
