...what would you do?
If it were me, I'd go after Al-Sadr's malitia. After killing them all, I'd try Al-Sadr and watch on gleefully as he swung from his rope.
Might as well throw the Sunni's a bone.
If Maliki got in the way, I'd remove him--the same way Park Chung-hee was removed when he tried making South Korea nuclear.
Then I'd put in a dictator who would have no qualms about throwing trouble makers out of helicopters in the middle of the night. |

History is going to be kind.
He'll go down as another Truman. |

He's going to go after Sadr but one of two things will happen:
1. The militia will disappear, just go into hiding, bleed into the general population and just use hit and run, ied, etc attacks. This will ensure that they will be ready to fight when the US leaves.
or
2. They will stand their ground and fight to the death. They will lose but they will cause hundreds if not thousands of US casualties and it will destroy Baghdad. Plus Iran will be pulled in officially and then the real fur will fly.
Either way the US loses.
Truman, hmpf, I don't think so. |

Truman had a favorability rating under 30 percent because of Korea.
Sometimes you just got to do what's right. |

But at least Truman ended up with a draw. Bush will lose, Iraq will never be a liberal, federal democratic functioning state. |

Neither was Korea for over 35 years.
What? You think democracy is easy. |

So many people have a real hate-on for Bush on this thread...I don't think he is great....but I don't lose any sleep over anything he does. If its not him..it will be some other rich white guy. So many people get so worked up over what he does....none of it affects me...Iraqi people....not my problem...I have my BMW 7 series and 5 bedroom house on the beach to buy. |

Is that why he was assassinated?
If I was Bush, I'd apologise on behalf of all Americans to the Iraqi people for the illegal invasion, and tell them my main goal is to turn the country into a decent place, at the expense of American lives. It's the least I can do for justice. Then I'd set it up so we'd have a military presence in Iraq for the next 40 or so years.
I'd pay Canada back the 5 billion dollars I owe them, only to make sure they get their money before I start paying back the debt I owe to China and Saudi Arabia. Then I'd put up a big "Bankrupt" sign at the Statue of Liberty and disappear overnight. |

* thoroughly question the Bin Laden family about what they knew about the 9-11 attacks, as opposed to letting the peeps related to the world's most wanted terrorist fly out of the US. Straightforward enough fare even for a Texan numbskull.
* have less vacation time and show a higher level of commitment.
* do SOMETHING besides just sit there, with a very suspicious look on my face, frozen with indecision, in response to being told NYC was under massive terrorist attacks, as many feel this has implications as to the general competence of the Commander in Chief.
* Iraq never posed an imminent threat to Americans in America, and that made the invasion unwarranted and preemptive. The most pointless, crap war in history....I definitely wouldn't bother sending my country's numbskull military over to the Middle East to get their asses thoroughly pummelled by a bunch of Iraqi peasants. Most embarrassing for a country that spends more on the military than the next 15 countries put together.
* Avoid 9-11 by increasing appropriate security measures. I definitely wouldn't ignore warnings received before 9-11 about the possibility of Al Qaeda attacks, specifically involving commercial airliners.
* don't allow people to take lighters onto planes. Even if you don't have a bomb in your shoe, you could do significantly more damage with a lighter that with many of the things that are not allowed on airplanes. Lighting a fire in the confined environment of an airplane cabin might cause some real problems. I'd do the whole Homeland Security thing differently.
* send more troops to Afghanistan. Not enough troops were sent, evidenced by the fact that we didn't catch Osama Bin Laden.
* crush the American drugs black market, which costs Johnny Yank tens of billions per year in a "domestic Vietnam". Take other measures to reduce America's appalling crime stats (stats such as Out of the 34,000 gun deaths in the U.S. each year, fewer than 300 are listed as "justifiable homicide," the only category that could include shooting a burglar, mugger, or rapist. Take measures to crush stats like The average US worker toils for two hours and 47 minutes of each working day just to pay income tax.
* not make moronic statements that make me - and the millions of absolute numbskulls that voted for me - look like a total thickie.
Bush is the worst president ever. Most sentient observers predicted as much in 2000. The penny will drop with even the dimmest of observers eventually.
Other things that the autocratic People's Republic of Spinland would see:
* The average American family views television six hours each day. Encourage more hobbies, tastes, passions, pursuits besides dreadful crap that American TV churns out.
* Introduce staunchly socialist policies that would help the 19% of American kids that grow up in abject poverty; totally crush self-help garbage.
* 90% of Americans believe in divine retribution. 82% believe in an afterlife. 45% believe in ghosts. Invest in education.
* end all support for Israel and take anti-democratic measures to crush its supporters in America, who are a disease on society.
* There have been several documented cases of women giving birth to twins who had different fathers, including cases where the children were of different races. To do so, the mother had to have conceived both children in close proximity. Improve public behaviour.
The above sounds very critical, but much of it can be applied to any first-world country, and of all the first-world countries I've visited, the USA is by far the most friendly, has by far the best atmosphere, and is generally a very likable society and somewhere I'd definitely want to live. |

If I were Bush, I'd move my assests to an offshore account and go hang with my criminal pals from Enron on that island they bought with their stolen money.
On the way out, I'd take that well soiled Bill of Rights and wipe my ass with it one last time, laughing all the way to the island at the simps who were dumb enough to support me for eight years.
That's if I were Bush... |
