This is for anyone who was in the country around 1996.
My uncle was teaching in Korea for 1996. He was in Yochon, a small town that has since been absorbed by Yeosu. His name was Barry, and he was short and a heavy drinker.
For one weekend we stayed in Seoul in a basement apartment with a Serbian couple. The dad was Serbian, the mom was Bosnian-Muslim, and the daughter was the ultimate symbol of racial rebellion. Her name was Seina and she was really funny.
This is my uncle holding the dog:
When I came here to visit with my sister and my two cousins, we bemusedly posed for this ad photo (yes I had long hair back then):
I want to know if anyone remembers any of the people I've mentioned here. It's a long shot but I'm assuming the ESL community was tighter back then. My uncle might be coming to visit this summer. |

Good luck with this. Turns out was in the country then, but nowhere near Yeosu ...
Methinks there's a halfway interesting story buried under this OP ... again, good luck in your efforts.

Half interesting is right. I was here for three weeks in 1996 when I was 16 years old, and when I went back to Edmonton I annoyed all my friends talking about Korea. My uncle didn't make it to the end of his contract because he had a heart attack and left around his tenth month. |
