You will notice Wii is here as well, but we all know that when it comes to the console wars, it's the first two that count.

Apparently the XBOX is the PC version of the gaming console, meaning that you can hack it a bit to do a few other things like play more video formats.

The PS3 has become too expensive for kids, maybe they're upgrading their flagship console to older people and creating something more economical for the younger ones (the next PSP?).

Any word on when the PS3 will be coming to Korea yet?

I'm hoping no time soon, as I'm having one shipped over in 2 weeks, and I'd like it to be ridiculously rare and for sale when I leave.

I thought about it quite a bit, and was actually waiting for a friend to see if there was an American one on base.

Obviously it's nice that there are so many more games available right now, but I only play 1 or 2 at a time anyway. As a tech junkie, having the most powerful piece of hardware available is nice, but more importantly for me, it's still a Playstation. The tiebreaker was the fact that I've never enjoyed playing with an Xbox controller, and I've never played any games in their lineup for any considerable amount of time.

I don't need wi-fi or mem card readers, so for $500 the 20 gig (w/replaceable hard drive) PS3 is only $100 more than the 20 gig Xbox 360. With shipping, maybe it's a bit much, but meh, life is short, and Korean TV sucks when you don't speak much Korean. It will also give me a boatload of hours of time-wastage by allowing Linux installation and whatnot.

Its all about games, games, games and Xbox has got them. Gears of War alone should sell you the system plus it will be the only place to get Halo 3. GTA 4 will be on the Xbox too so your running out of reasons to own a PS 3 with their crappier online service and such. Maybe Sony will put out a game that well iconic but I don't see one on the horizon yet...

Never played Halo. I'm all about the Metal Gear series, which is reason enough... blah blah blah. Anyway, I did want to play Gears of War, but I play mostly sports games, and I hate playing those on Xbox controllers.

Also, I just feel like the PS3 will be worth it in the end, because the 360 should conceivably have more of a games advantage than it does after a year, considering new PS2 consoles still greatly outsold it last year. More consoles out there (eventually) means more money, more good games, etc. Dreamcast had great gameplay, keep in mind... damn, I miss NFL 2k...

Do you have a 360 here? If so, where'd you get it?

Was in Yong-san today. They had some...I think they were sold out though.

600,000 won...don't think so.

I gotta go 360. Cool things:
Being able to play/charge my ipod without a computer
Internet connectivity
Games with patches and additional content !
Cooler games (imho)
Not stupidly priced like some other systems

Don't be so sure. Here in Canada everyone is talking about the Wii, and Wired just rated it higher than the other 2.

My thoughts...worth very little.

I bought a 360 last spring after breaking a promise to wait until all the systems came out. I couldn't be happier. I brought it to Seoul with me and it has been great for both my wife and I. We're playing a ton of Xbox Live games (good value and easy to get) and retail games from home. Plus we're downloading movies and TV shows, demos of new games, and video previews of all kinds of content. I use my iPod for music in games and am about to link it to my PC so I can watch my iPod videos on TV. Basically, I'm very happy, even with the terrible TV I have here while my HD set sits in storage.

The PS3 will surely have some good games in the future, but as of now has next to nothing. The hardware is not making any improvements on cross-platform games and is even under-performing compared to the 360. I turned away from Sony after three systems died on me and my job involved talking to hundreds more who had the same problems. I know Xbox has had some problems with new systems breaking, but they've gone so far as to extend the warranty to a full year (unheard of since the NES) and fixing the original problem on all systems made after January, 2006. On the PS2, Sony just said the failures were "planned obsoletism" and perfectly normal. Basically they liked their sales numbers being padded by above average failures. I hope PS3 does well, but I will never buy from Sony again.

The 360 lacks in only two areas. The HD is small compaired to the old one, 20G's, but you can upgrade or just share memory with your PC. The other is the disk size, since they are using regular DVD format instead of a higher density, like Sony's Blue-Ray. Basically, some games in the future may come on two disks. I won't cry.

Bottom line (after a long winded post) is that the 360 is amazing right now and far more for the money. Everything you need will be on it (unless you are crazy for Metal Gear like I am for Halo) and 2007 will have more great games than any other platform. The Wii is the next best thing and a totally different experience, so it's even better that you can buy a premium 360 and a Wii for $50 more than just a premium PS3. Thats my recommendation.

Save your money - buy a PS2 and wait till the price drops on the PS3 and see if the BluRay thing actually takes hold or goes away...

I've had ps2s for like 6 years, and I'm a tech junkie hooked on graphics, but I don't like playing games with a keyboard and mouse. And the PS2 looks like crap on a widescreen tv.

Also, to even get a 20gig hard drive, you have to pay 419 for a korean 360. Not even considering the other tech advantages (bluray, linux capability, not being a M$ product), that's only $100 less than the 20 gig ps3. I'll pay $100 for personal preference. I am pretty retardedly addicted to the Metal Gear series, and I have a PSP which is compatible in a boatload of ways. Other games I like aren't exclusive, but I've only played them on PS2, such as GTA and any sports game.

Basically, the only reasons I was considering switching to a 360 were Gears of War and a 1 year advantage of developers working with the hardware. But then I started watching HD trailers and reviews of games like Resistance and Motorstorm, and I know enough games will keep coming out this year alone to make it more fun for me.

I watched a pretty interesting discussion about all 3, and a notion that I remembered and can see happening was mentioned: eventually, when all of this launch hubbub is over, and it's just down to buying competing available game systems, the Wii will be the most popular 2nd console of a household, for those with two. Nintendo is still the innovator of things which will soon be copied by the other two, and while it's potential is very intriguing, it's core gameplay is still geared towards family entertainment--kids. I don't want to play tennis in the living room with my mom. The ever-growing group of 20-to 30-year-olds who play videogames care about things like graphics, mature storylines, and non-game functionality (dvd, online, connectivity/compatibility), and they don't have to ask their parents for the system for Christmas, because a few of them actually have jobs, so $500 for something more powerful than my $900 laptop isn't that unheard of.
