Why rule out motels? Theyre as clean & spacious as hotels & come with extra conveniences, for half the price.

Go to Thailand, the Philippines, Bali, or Vietnam. Jeju isn't worth it, unless you want to make a weekend get-a-way and have nothing better to do.

This one's the best:

http://wiki.galbijim.com/Motel_Prime

35,000 a night, perfectly clean and new, located right near City Hall which is the best part of the city.

Jeju is worth it, don't let this bad info get to your head. Sure, a trip to Thailand is going to give you more things to do, it's a completely different country! It's also about 500,000 won more for the plane ticket.

My advice: Go by plane, rent a car if you can afford it and have the international license (if not, the bus will do you fine) and stay out of Jeju city for long periods of time. It's just a city, not the nicest part of the island. The highlights not to be missed are: The big beach by Hallim Park, the waterfalls on the southside of the island, the top of Hallasan (if you are a hiker) and if you have a car or want to rent a bike, Udo (an island off the East coast where you can spend a quiet day, but still have sights to see).
