I just got home Internet, and hooked up my Powerbook. Fun!

The Powerbook has a wireless card, so I want to go wireless. I want a router, not a hub, right? The Mac OS handles wireless networking internally, so I don't need to worry about installing software, right? Korea is not exactly Mac-friendly.

On another note, it bothers me that there are no grounded outlets here. The titanium shell on my Powerbook actually has a slight current running through it. Is there a way to ground my Powerbook?

I don't know about grounding, perhaps run some sort of metal cable to the metal leg of your desk or something... but I wouldn't worry about it.

As for wireless - yes, you want a wireless router. It *should* work out of the box, but if not it's fairly easy to set up.

Just remember that wireless is inherently insecure. So just using it out of the box leaves your internet access open to anyone within range, and any data that you're sending open to anyone who wants to see it (my linux geek friends were stealing my email passwords and stuff just for laughs when they visited me a few months back).

So I'd recommend setting up some of the security features (WPA). As a minimum change the default login and password for the wireless access point. Otherwise any passerby can lock you out of your own network or screw around with your settings.

Finally, wireless is slower than a cable, although the theoretical maximum is much higher than the actual speed of your internet access. You will probably experience some speed issues if you're using it for downloading serious stuff and you care about every kB of speed you can sqeeze.
