fugazi, capitol theater, olympia wa. 1999 with the ex opening up. the ex are one of the best live acts i've ever seen. fugazi - just goes without saying, and olympia is a second hometown for them.
slayer, PNE forum, vancouver 1994. they opened with "raining blood". 'nuff said.
shellac, showbox theater 1997. steve albini: "i'm wearing my burzum shirt tonight. as you can see, it has nordic runes on it..."
gorilla biscuits - reunion tour july 2006, seattle. best part for me was both me and Civ wearing bad brains shirts... and the singalong part "no reason why... to beat up on a poser skin..." and then i'm up on stage, singing along, bad brains shirt to bad brains shirt... and he gives me the mic. beautiful.
helmet - town pump, vancouver 1991. strap it on tour. so fucking brutal.
death sentence - kelowna bc, 1987. first hardcore show ever. |

Heh... that was the last time the students were allowed to choose the live band Anything the teachers suggested was lame, so we vetoed every single one. Nothing but DJs for the next 4 years (until the school closed down).

In no order:
Beastie Boys - State Fairgrounds,Detroit, MI NYE 1991
Phish - Big Cypress 1999(more for the event and they didn't leave the stage for 7 hours playing from midnight to 7 am....had a port-a-pottie onstage)
Billy Joel - Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, MI 1983, my first concert
.moe - Ann Arbor,MI 1995, The Blind Pig, their first Ann Arbor show, only 15 people in the whole place
Smashing Pumpkins - Breslin Center, East Lansing, MI 1993
Badly Drawn Boy - Majestic Theatre, Detroit, MI 2000
Wilco - Royal Oak Music Theatre, Royal Oak, MI
Phish, Alpine Valley 1997, great show and lots of hijinx and hilarity throughout the crowd
BB King - Pine Knob, Clarkston, MI. Not a great show, but a f'ing legend and had the chance to sit down and meet him as I was working in concert p.r. at the time.
Phish, Roseland Ballroom 2000. They oversold the show, about 2,500 people at the show.
Brad Mehldau - Yonsei Concert Hall, Seoul 2003 |

For me the best concert was the Final Phish tour in 2004. I saw them both shows out at Alpine Valley. There was a great vibe in the air, as well as some other stuff to. . The band was certainly in a groove those nights. The crowd in the lawn seats were getting into the music like I had not seen in a while. Nobody wanted the magical night to end. |

Jane's Addiction & the Chili Peppers in Seoul- was it 2003?
Jane's rawked so hard! It was orgasmic. It just can't be described. It was a real fulfillment to finally see them.
The Chili Peppers were tired, but put on a pretty great show. They couldn't upstage Jane's opening for them, though.
Seeing Tool this past summer was also great. They are just unbelievable!
I saw them 1st back at Lollapalooza '93 in Atlanta.
It was:
Rage Against the Machine- really cool, but they had just come out at the time, so didn't really know them. I knew I liked it, though.
Tool- same as Rage.
Front 242- strange to see outside in the daytime.
Dinosaur Junior- I liked their tape at the time, but they were seriously boring live.
Arrested Development- played with a live band and it was grooving.
Fishbone- only played 4 songs for their 45 minute set, but it was a non-stop groove. They had the whole place jumping and moving like wild animals.
Alice In Chains- they were great. Mesmerizing! Shame what happened to Layne Staley.
Primus- closed the show and were great. A truly original and unique sound to hit the big time. Whoda thunk it? |

Nine Inch Nails on the Downward Spiral tour. That was my favorite band of his. It was a powerful and moving show.
Marilyn Manson opened up and it sucked- boring!
G. Love & Special Sauce in a small club my last year in university- great show, great energy.
A real highlight was seeing a show at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco. It was Mickey Hart and Planet Drum. Hart was one of the Dead drummers and is now exploring world music with a group a world-class players. Along with him was what seemed to be an ancient Sudanese man named Hamza El Din. He opened the show alternating between a simple hand drum and a lute like instrument that accompanied his poetry singing. The whole crowd just shut up and experienced it. It was like a seance. A really great experience. |

The Decemberists: Washington, DC and Kansas City (I believe both in 2005). Damn, I love the Decemberists.
De La Soul: Washington DC, 2005
Billy Idol: Kansas City, 2004. I was the youngest person there, and surrounded by 40 year olds in leather. With a rebel yell, indeed.
Valient Thorr: 2006
And don't laugh, but Third Eye Blind in 2002 |

Thanks for reminding me. How could I ever forget the EoDM and Peaches concert? A packed house throwing up the shocker...truly a memory to be cherished. |
