|
|
I'm in talks with a director of a school in Seoul right now about a job starting in April. He seems pretty reasonable and has made some revisions to the contract in areas that I felt needed clearing up, but he won't provide me with the email addresses of his foreign teachers. He has given me their phone numbers, but I'm not sure how I can call them without spending a fortune. Is this normal? It'd be far more convenient for me to simply email the teachers than call them, especially considering the time difference. |

RED FLAG.
This is a classic hogwan screwmonger tactic. The director knows you're not in Korea, right? |

Ask the director to have one of the teachers call you on his office phone. In the conversation, give the teacher your e-mail address and establish contact that way. |

Get a cheap calling card and just call them. I don't see the big deal. |

Chances are he doesn't know the teacher's email addresses. Suggestions so far have been good - or you could give the director your e-mail address and ask him to have the teachers contact you! |

Who cares what they say? They'll lie just to get out of there. Take whatever they say with a grain of salt. Get to Korea first. Check the school out. |

yeah, he knows I'm not in Korea. He says that teachers in the past have complained about having to spend a lot of time writing emails to potential teachers, but I don't see how talking on the phone is MORE convenient. I think I'm going to look at other schools. |

You might also want to check with your phone company. My mom calls me and blabbers for up to an hour and says it doesn't cost much. |

I don't see it as a red flag....
Ring them quickly and then ask them directly for their email adresses and then give them yours....
How much would it cost to do that??? |

How nice of you to take an interest. With 5,000 people in my little town, probably not.
I didn't realize that it would be that expensive or I would have called him and told him to read his (*@#$ email and gotten off the phone.
