I took a picture of the gas pumps on January 1, 2007.

1)gasoline/petrol
1 420 (South Korean won / liter) = 5.75765031 U.S. dollar / US gallon

2)diesel oil?
1 225 (South Korean won / liter) = 4.96698707 U.S. dollar / US gallon

Thanks Smile

I think it's because people in the south are greedy?

In Busan SK is generally the most expensive.

I have a check card from Shinhan bank that gives me some discounts at Hyundai Oilbank. Recently I've been getting fuel at around 1389-1419 before the discount.

Usually the cheaper gas stations are on the edge/outskirts of the city.

Never really look at the price of diesel.

Because they do not use gas-guzzlers like US people.

Engine size is 1.0 liter - 1.2/1.3 liter for smaller cars.
1.5-1.6 liter for mid-size sedans (Avante, Cerato).
1.8/2.0 liter for larger ones (Sonata, Lotze)

SUVs are common-rail diesels.

Europe is the same as in Korea in respect to engine sizes. You get about 6-7 liters gas (petrol) per 100km for smaller engines, or about 9 for larger for 100 km. Some smaller engines are 5-6 - I just made a guestimate on the traditional (worst-case) side.

It amazes me when americans put 3.8 liter V6 or 4.0+ liter V8 and then they complain about mileage. Rationale is that they need the power for their truck - they go commute to work in office alone in the car - no need for a truck and no need for such an engine size. Even when reading reviews they sometimes write "a small 3.8 liter engine.....etc...etc...but larger 4.x is available which gives much better blah blah"

If they drove 4-cyl 1.6 liter 110-120 HP car, they wouldn't be complaining. Even for US sized 4-cylinder engines of 2.4 liters (Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata) its still being ridiculed as low-power, etc....but all they do is straight highway drivinig. No roads with turns and twists like in the good old Europe. Even suspension for US cars is so soft, no handling, etc.

The paint guy sells it for less. Shocked Oh no, I wonder if SK is going to call me a bitch and a liar for saying that now.

I heard there are lots of gas black markets where they sell ridiculously cheap gas.
