|
|
I'm teaching English to almost every dam kid in Korea this month. Where did all of these kids come from? WTF?
Looks like I'll end up with 152 teaching classroom hours in January. I get 20,000 won for every hour over 120, so it looks like a big February 10 payday.
Anyone else getting stuck with a lot of extra teaching hours during the winter intensives? |

Make sure you keep a note of how many extra hours you are working and estimate how much you expect to get.

Seems like it would be a good idea for such places to hire another experienced, qualified teacher to take the pressure off for a camp or two... |

You only get 20?! That sucks. I get paid 27,000 for each hour above 120! I thought my overtime rate was low............ |

Last winter my director at the last hagwon job said they were about to lose a bunch of students to winter vacation camps and I suggested we have a mini-camp in the mornings when we're never open usually anyways. So we had classes from 9 am to noon in addition to the regular 3 to 9. I regretted opening my big friggin' mouth!
This winter at a new hagwon I find myself working for the vacation period a mere 14 classes a week at full 2.2 mill pay. I don't ever work Fridays or Saturdays and my usual load is 22 hours here, which is perfect. 14 hours is like I'm not even working. |

my straight up pay is 30K an hour, no monthly. Hence, I am always asking for more hours, and generally speaking I get them. |

No intensives at my place...good but it might be nice to have the extra money. My contract doesn't even state an overtime rate! I asked about it when signing but my boss said it's never happened so it's not necessary. |

JLB, that was not smart. Your boss might have said it never happens but it's your boss. I'm not saying that s/he is a liar but you should have gotten a rate in writing anyway. |

Our intensives are awesome. I will do an additional 120 hours just in OT at 20 and hour, but that equates to 2.4, so I'm happy to get that for two months, as come March we are done. A nice little bonus.

Ya, normally I would think way too suspicious. Except that three of my friends finished contracts with this guy and what the boss said checked out. |
