I was there! Good show. Actually, I was never the biggest fan but my friend scored two tickets when the show was suddenly announced. Big Sugar at their peak. There was also some wussy opening band with a chubby singer wearing a shiny silver shirt, I remember correctly. |

how crazy is that eh! there were maybe 200 folks there that night. I must tell you this story then. I was on Xmas break from uni and broke. My highschool buddies took me out for the night, ticket to the show, pints and what not. If you recall it was a freezing cold night and alot of snow coming down. So as my buddies and i were having a pint during the intermission they put me on the mission of going out to the car and putting a zig and zag together before the show. I didnt want to do it cause i knew i was going to freeze my ass off in the car, but how could i say no seeing as they were treating me.
So im walking out of Barrymore's and take a left on Bank St heading down towards the parking lot at the corner. As im walking, this guy walks by with a suitbag over his shoulder. No biggie. 10 meters later, another guy with another suitbag. Hmm? 10 meters, another dude. Whats up? A FOURTH GUY COMES ALONG, suit bag...had to stop him! "Dude where is this truck you guys are grabbing suits off the back of!" Guy laughs and keeps walking...
Anyhow, get to the car, boys come along, explain, didnt faze em, head back in to the club. As we walk in, lights go down, we get our table down along side the floor, and boom, 4 guys with Armani suits walk on stage. "Ladies and Gentlemen Big Sugar!" It was a great night and they put on a hell of a show! After Hemi Vision they went to main stream for me. But in that time from 500pounds till they went too radio and less jazz/rock I had seen them 11times. Gordie Johnson and Neil Young are the two loudest performers i had ever seen!

SXSW in Austin. The most fantastic annual music festival in the world, bar none.
Punk is still punk at SXSW. I was at a show in this tiny hole-in-the-wall joint jammed packed with about a 6,000 people (room for 60) and the band was SCREAMING and this asslicker, three sheets to the wind was staggering around and knocking over tables (YES! There were tables!) and generally pissing everyone off and this dude got up on top of the speaker stack and spat beer on directly on him and then a bunch of people picked him up and slammed him forehead first into the floor and he came up with a SPLIT SKULL, blood streaming down his mug, and CONTINUED TO ROCK. I picked a corner and put my back firmly into it.
Best. Concert. Ever. |

| Sound Tribe Sector Nine, Spring of 2005, at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom in Denver, Colorado = Religious Experience. Only the drummer was playing most of the time, while the others were improvising using digital samples from their laptops. Every once in awhile the guitarist or bassist or percussionist would perform a solo, but it was mostly improvisational digital sampling and it was really unbelievable. They refuse to release soundboard recordings and nobody was allowed to record during the show, so I guess I will never get to hear any of it again. |

I saw Peaches at the Granada (affectionately known as the Granasty) in Lawrence, KS. Wonderful show. Lots of gender-questionable concert goers. |

Gordon Lightfoot has legs. I first saw him in a tiny coffee house in Ottawa called 'Le Hibou'. It was 1966. He was the tall lanky cowboy from Orillia, Ont, from where cowboys rarely come. Hanging out with Ian and Sylvia no doubt contributed to his style. Actually spoke with him that night. My only brush with celebrity. Unless you count Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks. But who recalls those guys these days? Ya-ta? Over to you.
