What is the difference between this and a reference letter from current my employer?

Has to say you worked at any job for two years or more, you could have worked at Mcdonalds and, that would be good enough! Very Happy

A letter of recommendation/reference is a letter that anyone can write for you; It could be a co-worker, your best friend, or ideally, your employer etc. This serves as an evaluation of your character and not necessarily anything else. An experience verification latter explicitly states how long you have been employed at a particular place. Here in Korea, it is standard, routine business and the verification letters in Korea even have an "official" appearance (AKA as a "kyongryok joongmyeongseo"). In many of our home countries, this creates some confusion, since our work experience can usually be verified with an informal phone call or through our social security history.

For a public school position, I used the teacher record of employment. Each school district (in Texas), keeps a record and you should receive one when you resign, switch school districts or retire.

For other employment, just ask personnel/human resources to give you a document that says the time period you worked there and position held.

Kind of a pain for some to do this, especially if they've held very many jobs. But on the other hand, you'll have a record for yourself if your memory dulls over time!
