I worded this wrongly as I meant to say that you guys would be telling me that Basketball was invented by an American. Nevertheless, I am still right. It was derived from several sports originating as far back as Greece. Basketball was then developed from these sports by a Canadian teaching in America.
You guys are still off your rockers to still think that hockey is a game played on ice. The reason why "field" was even added to hockey was because the Americans/Canadians thought "their" game should be recognised as the proper sport.
I wrote all the facts and if you still don't get it then there's no convincing you. |

So why isn't field hockey a popular sport at the Summer Olympics? Its not even on the radar. While I might no be the biggest soccer fan at least I can aknowledge it is the most popular sport in the world. Many people play field hockey but no one is watching!

It is a popular sport at the Olympics. Maybe your country isn't good at it. No big deal.

Field hockey has so much participation because it is popular in poor countries with large populations like India. Which is ironically the worst sports nation on the face of the planet. |
Now you're really getting stupid. Nothing of what you said were facts, but merely opinions. You just express them as facts like most people on this thread. |

However to anyone in Canada, USA, Russia, and Europe if you talk about hockey they will think about it being played on ice.
In Pakistan, India, and Australia mention hockey and I gather they think about a sport played on grass or artificial surfaces. |
Key word is gather=assume, which is where the problem lies. |

If field hockey is so popular why is exposure to it limited to the summer olympics where it is far from the most popular sport there anyway? (I come from a country which had done quite well in this sport too) |

| rocklee, you strike me as the kind of person who was always picked last in gym class. now you are just bitter and try to pretend that you are now an athlete for once in your life because you play a girls sport. i'll wager that any professional hockey team could take off their hockey equipment and kick the asses of any field hockey team out there at field hockey, but there isn't a fat chance in hell that the opposite would be true. |

Rocklee seems to be just a moron.
While growing up in Canada I played hockey till I was 26 love the game. field hockey was strictly for the ladies in my part of Canada.
If a guy wanted to play a similar game (to field hockey) in Canada it was Lacross, thats another great game. |

Probably got picked last when the girls were playing field hockey and got the ball in the head. Maybe Rockhead Lee would be better. |

Rocklee is just being a knob. It would be like walking into 3Alley Pub and sitting down with a bunch of Englishmen and convincing them that US Football is the 'real' Football and Football is soccer. I figure that would get heated very quickly, and I would get what's coming to me.
I actually knew a guy in University who was on the Canadian Olympic Field Hockey Team. He was actually a soccer player, but he figured this would be his best chance to go to the Olympics. |

Actually, you are completely wrong and just proved it to yourself. Basketball was invented in the States. Now you are trying to say something different because you know your point was crap. You lose, everybody else agrees with me. Why don't you put on a skirt and go play some FIELD hockey. |

Nope. Straight from Wikipedia "Despite the large number of participants, field(club) hockey is not a particularly large spectator sport".
Why no big professional leagues for field hockey? Shouldn't there be numerous multi-millionaire field hockey players just like in ICE HOCKEY? Why not?
It is safe to conclude that field hockey is a big participation sport but NOT a popular spectator sport. |
