Almost every time the US military has an airstrike innocent people get hurt.
I'm just wondering....when the average American sees this on the news and he hears that innocent bystanders got killed...what is his reaction?
Does he: care; ignore it; not even hear that part; feel a little sorry; feel shame; feel really bad ?
Can anyone help me out here?
I would love to hear how these attacks can be justified objectively |

It's my guess that many (most?) feel that the tragedy of innocent lives lost is the same as the British public felt when the RAF bombed Nazi-occupied France and killed innocent people. |

I find the whole OP a bit dodgy, insofar as the writer seems to assume that anyone on this board is qualified to speak on behalf of what some vaguely-defined "average American" thinks about a given topic. |

Do I count as an average American?
I think war is hell, it sucks, people die.
But these people are people I don't know, so I don't really think about it very much.
I think its unrealistic and hopelessly naive to think that our troops can fight with guns and bombs and other destructive things and never make any mistakes and never kill civilians. Whenever there is war, civilians will die.
Also, I don't think there are any civilians left in Somalia. |

Ok what do you think about this...
Every time an American asked me the last few years what I thought of 9/11 I always said that I wasnt too bothered about it...it was shocking and sad but that's it.
(None of my countrymen died in the attacks)
This offended and angered the hell out of every American that asked me.
Why?
Isn't that how most Americans feel about innocent people dying in the US war on terror? |

Did you know that you are a jackass and a moron
Accidentally killing civillians is a lot different than deliberately targeting civilians. |

Maybe you should be pointing out these contradictions to the Americans that you had the conversations with, rather than coming on here and expecting Dave's posters to explain the opinions of people they've never even met. Just a thought. |

Accidentally????
The US military knows when they plan their missile strikes that there is a high possibility that innocent bystanders would get hit.
They still go ahead with the strike
Innocent people die
How the *beep* is that accidental? |

For Christ's sake, first he tries to make it sound as if he's just politely curious about a seeming contradiction in American attitudes toward different types of civilian deaths. Then, when people explain why they feel a certain way, he starts in with the belligerence and swearing. I don't think he's conducting this discussion in good faith. |

You, as with most Americans, have very little understanding as to just how sanitized the coverage is in the U.S. |

You need to shut up and go strangle yourself. Now.
You are a moron if you think that the only time civilians ever die in a war is when it is the US.
You talk as if civilian casualties only exist in US wars. BULL.
Its war and people will die, civilians.
Yet the US has spent billions of dollars building smart weapons to reduce the amount of civilians killed. Thats more then I can say for alot of nations. Furthermore, just because you risk civilian causlties isnt a excuse to let threats brood. Should the US not have bombed German and Japanese cities in WWII just because civvies might die?
Should we have not bombed places in Afghanistan? Just because civvvies may die?
No. things have to be dealt with.
This translates into more then just war too.. Law enforcement for example, if a suspect is firing at police, do the cops not return fire, and defend themselves , just because civies might die from a stray bullet?
and the whole title of the thread Is absolute bullshit for as I have said before civilians die in more wars then just US wars, yet I dont see you posting about them.
I didnt see you here posting when Ethiopa invaded Somalia or when Russia attacked Chechnya..
Also I doubt you cared about thealkands Island war of Britain.
Or any of the 3 Pakistan vs India wars.
Yet, the US gets invovled and you act like its a new thing: civies dying in war. |
