I am goign to be starting work in Incheon next month, can anyone give me a brief outline of anything in the city of interest andlet me know what the social scene is like there.

Your best bet (if you like a drink, are lonely, and are looking to meet foreigners) is to show up at the Goose Goose in Bupyoung on a Friday night............

The area running from Bucheon to Incheon is the promised land.

Plusses...
near the ferry terminal for island getaways
Plenty of nitelife dotted around
Near both airports
Near the coast

Some people develop a taste for it. Personally I'd rather live there over anywhere else, including the areas I was in before- (Gimpo & namyangju).

Incheon is not too bad at all, really. The air is bad, but the apartments there are typically larger than in some of the more popular areas. There's loads of foreigners there too, and a couple of popular bars.

Incheon is big, though. Where are you going to be? Like, what neighborhood?

Bupyong and Juan are popular drinking areas for Koreans. In bupyong, Goosegoose is a good cheap local, and you can meet people there easily.

Canada Buddy in Bucheon (right on the border of Incheon, heading to Seoul) is popular as well, and has good burgers.

There's a Wild Bill's (number ten bar is the real name, I think) in...Kanja Dong? Can't remember.

And if you're on Subway line 1 to Seoul, it's easy to get to any other part of the city. Lots of buses too.

Good Luck! I lived around there for three years, met lots of really nice people, and drank too much. The social scene is pretty boozy, really. I guess you could find teetotallers to hang with if that's your thing, too...I don't know how many foreigners are in Incheon/ Bucheon, but I would guess there are several hundred, as a very conservative guess. Oh, there's about 3 million Koreans, too.

I've been in Incheon since June of last year and it's not that bad. The air is just as bad as it is in Seoul.

If your younger and want to party, get drunk and go clubbing, then you should go to Seoul. Many foreigners brag about their partying, excessive drinking and hanging out in Itaewon, personally none of those things interest me.

Incheon is a bit more laid back. It is pretty cold anywhere in the Northern part of Korea, but Incheon seems colder then Seoul (at least to me). I found a nice public school and a big apartment, not far from Juan Station. Yes, it is quite a job to get into Seoul, but I don't do it very often.

I'm in perhaps the best area in Incheon: Goo Wol dong. Three department stores, two major supermarkets, THE cinema to see and to be seen. My neighbourhood is quiet with none of those danged trucks, and it's near Incheon Bus Terminal.

I've met most of my buddies in Incheon, but they live in Seoul or went home, now. I don't drink, so can't help you there. There's a Canadian hockey club, but you'll need to ask the canuks.

if you're interested in history, there's the MacArther Memorial Park (dong incheon station), another memorial joint on a mountain in Songdo, and Wolmido, where the ferries are.

I hope your new job isn't at ASTA Kid's Club in dong chun dong.
