My brother-in-law is in a metal band called Downhell. He was hired to play guitar for a commercial for Daum. Take a look.

I know what you're thinking. That's a chick. Well, she's not actually playing that song.
My brother-in-law let slip in an interview that he's really behind that song (as had been rumoured) and now all hell is beginning to break loose. |

I was wondering about that. It's pretty obvious in the longer ad that what we hear isn't what we see. She even did a couple of bends where no strings were bent in the song. |

Actually, I thought it was an impersonator...a guy dressed as a girl.. |

Here's more story:
The girl in the video was a guitar prodigy who made an online audition of herself playing a song on her guitar. She played it pretty well, but it's the only song she ever learnt, and she can't play anything else.
Daum hired her for this commercial, and provided this song for her to play. She couldn't figure it out at all. So they hired my brother-in-law, a session musician, to teach her how. He couldn't. So they got him to play the song while she pretends to play.
The commercial went on air but too many musicians saw it and figured out she wasn't really playing. The ad was pulled.
Recently in an interview, someone asked my brother-in-law if he was the guy behind the song. He said yes.
After that, the girl's mother freaked out, saying that her daughter is a brilliant guitarist (who can only play one song), and that he's killing her career. Daum applied pressure to the brother-in-law's friend to get him to make an apology and say he was mistaken and they used a version by this girl.
That's pretty well where we are now, but this isn't done yet. |

This "one trick pony" could easily be disproven of her "prodigy" status with a little test. What the hell? Your brother-in-law should tell them to royally f-off. |

Why didn't they apply pressure to hime directly? What's his friend have to do w/ it? |

He's rich and works freelance. His friend is a producer for a company that's owned by Daum or something like that, so they were able to put pressure on him instead. |

In other words, he's like Jimmy Page at the beginning of his career when he'd be called in by the studios when guitar prodigies would fall short of being prodigious. Since the interviewer knew to ask him about it, I'd guess his contributions to others' recordings are an open secret within the Korean music industry. Good for him, he'll get the public recognition he deserves. |

He's a session musician so he's been on a lot of really major projects. Basically he's a guitar for hire. His main creative outlet is the metal band Downhell which plays around Hongdae more and more these days.
His family is rich so he's never had to work hard. Hence, professional guitarist. Also, hence my sister-in-law falling for him (and subsequently metal). |

Still, it's not easy earning a living as a musician ("It's a long way to the top if you wanna Rock'n Roll", as the song goes). Again, I hope he gets the recognition he deserves. |

Not including a disturbing fondness for fourteen year old girls, I hope? |
