Time for you to shift gears. OSU lost--er-was trounced by Florida. And then lost in basketball to the Badgers. Must really burn your bum to know that UW reigns supreme in three sports over your cherished Buckeyes: football, basketball, and hockey.
P.s. if it makes you feel any better, I really don't care about college sports like you do. Fun to follow but hardly shapes my daily mood.
What matters is academics, and in this arena between OSU and UW, it's always been no contest.
So did your lowly Whitewater team beat powerhouse Mount Union? |

The importance of academics as we know them today is questionable. Education is important but it is farmers, businessmen, and inventors who actually provide food and make advancements. |

Its been a rough month or so all around here. Basketball season its quiet over yet though and I will take a 12-1 run, though I would prefer not to get the loss at the end with such an ass kicking. |

Ah, well, you'll be fine in a week or so. At least OSU is always respectable in sports and, truth told, some of the academic departments are excellent. And Whitewater is good in business, or at least used to be.

And of course none of those professions require an education. MBA? What's that? What does the A stand for in A&M? And those engineering schools? They never produce inventors. Those lovely people just pop out of thin air. |

I am not saying that one does not have to learn something. Education and academics are not exactly the same thing. Furthermore people were starting companies and inventing things before most people went to universities. Henry Ford and many other successful people did not attend an academic institution. What I am saying is that universities which is where academics take place is often a lot of bull #### |

They don't. Companies require MBA's. Being successful in the profession does not. Especially if you are brave enough to pursue your own business. I am sure you can find many investors that only have BAs. There are probably some non-college grads who taught themselves how to invest. |

actually the best school academically in the Big 10 overall is Michigan, its overall one of the top 5 public univs in the country. Northwestern has the best MBA program in the country, Wisconsin has some great programs, Purdue has a top flight engineering program and Ohio St has solid reps across the board
Overall the Big 10 is likely one of the best academic conferences in the country far better than the SEC or Big XII
BTW my sister was at as she called it the "debacle in the desert", she paid $1000 for her ticket and was happy she didnt pay $1500.
Well as we all know, speed kills and it killed Ohio St |

What I notice is that none of those reasons equals "UF is the second best team." Those reasons are all equal to "I really want to put UF in the number 2 position on my ballot." The only guy in there who actually claimed to believe UF was better than UM, was the guy who put them first, even ahead of OSU. The rest are just rationalizing why they put a team in the number 2 spot despite not actually believing them to be the 2nd best team in the nation. They don't even pretend. They're not even saying boldly, "I put UF number 2 because I think they are the 2nd best team in the country-simple as that." |
I enjoy this one also, especially the bolded part. |

Yeah, because UM's defense gave OSU fits the last time they played, right?

| No matter which way it goes, the BCS is going to look stupider than ever. If UM goes, you get a rematch game while the one-loss SEC champ gets left out. If UF goes, you get a UM team that was ahead of UF in the BCS this week and gets passed by simply because UF played an extra game and beat an Arkansas team whose best known game of the season was an off-the-charts beat-down at home. Everyone will know that UF slipped past UM not because they beat Arkansas (nothing impressive about that, they just lost last week, too) but because the voters wanted to place UF in the title game and avoid the rematch. |
No, the stupid thing was how UM didn't drop after losing their last game of the season. This week, if UF leapfrogs them, will be correction for that horrendous decision by the voters. By the way, how do you justify letting a team who lost its last game of the season into the national title game over a team who won its conference championship in its final game?
| flakfizer wrote: |
| And as for that "strength of schedule" nonsense. It's not just who you beat, it's also who you lost to. One team lost to the number one team in the nation and didn't schedule any 1-AA teams either. The other team... |
didn't play a cupcake schedule in an overrated conference. Oh, and UF's strongest argument is better than "hey, we lost our last game of the season, we deserve another chance!"

| Regardless, UF will get the number 2 spot in the BCS and will be double-digit underdogs. |
People around here sure have short memories. I remember last year everyone thought Texas was nothing more than a sacrificial lamb to the USC juggernaut. Of course, then they actually played the game.
Or, a few years ago, sports reporters inaugerated Miami as the next national champ in December. A funny thing happened in the bowl game, if I recall correctly, they lost to Ohio State. |
This one was pretty good too. |

I think the only thing proven was the OSU got their asses stomped by florida. That is a fact. The whole SEC/Big Ten stuff is just crap, both are tough conferences, Big Ten top dog got killed, Sec seconds got beat by Big Ten, nothing proven. |
