Any American citizens gotten one of these in Korea? I need one for my new job. What's the best approach? Embassy, immigration office, or online? Thanks

I asked what the recruiter, "What kind do you want?" There are many different kinds. I told her the one from the state would take a few weeks.
She had me sign a paper instead.

You can do it online, costs about 30 - 35 $, just print it out and submit it.

Yes. You can do it on line. Each state has a different fee. Mine cost a whole whole whopping $3.++! (Texas). You can print it out and save it to your documents also.

I don't think Koreans understand the difference between State and Federal background checks. A State one is acceptable.

OK, so I tried the online thing. It wasn't really what I wanted. Can anyone recommend a site that you have used that gives you a nice looking printout of your record? Thank you

Just out of the curious angle, what do they look for in a background check?

I mean if you jumped a turnstyle on the subway in NYC and got arrested for it does it bar you from working in a public school?

Do they differenciate between something that happend 20 years ago vs 1 year ago?

What is the actual criteria? Does anyone know?

And what kind os background check do you really have to provide? From your local police station? State? Federal? how do you get these things quickly and cheaply?

Last time I had to get a background check that required fingerprinting it took like 8 weeks for the result.

Does anyone know the name of the website where they got their background check?? I found a place (https://www.intelius.com), but it's $45 dollars, which seems a bit steep from what you guys are saying! Where can I get a state background check?
Thanks!

This website was given to me last year by my recruiter to use for a US criminal background check. It's cheap, easy to do, and apparently fulfills the requirement. I did it and it worked fine for me. Just print the results and send it in with your other stuff.

It was a paper she emailed me. I promised I wasn't a criminal and would maintain a good record and I think maybe provide the background check later. No one has asked for it so far. -Jeff

I printed one from my city just in case they ask for one. So far they haven't. The funny thing is I paid a fine for not painting my house and it is listed as an arrest. Maybe it's better if they never see it. One website said to print your own off the internet from a company. Maybe that's so you have an opportunity to alter it before you print it. Koreans are so considerate that way.

I found it. It's still on their website.
