|
|
I'm changing visas this April and travel outside the country to do so. I've been to Fukuoka and Osaka and have seen a limited selection of western name brand stores.
I'm thinking of Guam this time as I here there are a quite a few malls there. I'll probably just go for a week.
Any input from you guys? |

There are two main shopping centers, the Micronesia Mall and an Outlet Mall, both are off-base. Prices and selection are comparable to what you'd find in the U.S. There's also a large standalone K-Mart.
All three are not far from the airport or Tumon (which is where the major hotels are located). They're not within walking distance, but you can take a cab or one of several shuttle buses that hit all the shopping centers in a circuit.

Other than shopping, you can go inland and hike, you can golf, and you can dive. |

Cool, thanks.
I bet they don't have a Korean consulate there do they?
How bout nightlife or day time things to do there?
Anything extraordinary to worry about besides the normal everyday underground tourist-related activity that goes on? |

Please don't make your vacation plans contingent on the presence of a K-Mart. That is just wrong. |

Korean Consulate, Guam homepage:

Nightlife, there are some Vegas-style shows, there's a Hard Rock Cafe, there are a ton of strip clubs, karaoke, etc.
Daytime, golf is big, diving is great (clear water, lots of coral), snorkeling, watersports (parasail, jet ski), hiking in the interior, relaxing on a beach.
I didn't notice anything to worry about, most of the real touristy stuff is aimed at the Japanese contingent.
@JeJuJitsu: It's a great K-Mart though -- kind of like the "King of K-Marts". Plus, it's open 24 hrs. And has a Little Caeser's. |

| Of course K-Mart isn't the only reason to visit the place. I've heard Guam is much tamer than say the Phillipines and Thailand which really aren't my bag. |

That is definitely true. You won't have touts, you're in the U.S., and it's far more quiet and relaxed than either of those places. |

Cambodia has an extensive range of western brand labeled clothing, including GAP. I found some very good quality shirts for USD$3.50 and bought 10 of them.

Singapore...
The whole country is similar to San Jose, CA.
It's virtually a western country. Everyone also speaks english as well, Fluent. They have nearly every imaginable western product there. At the same low price you would find in the west.
Also, if you need anythign other than clothes, electronics, etc..
Mustafa shopping center in Singapore. Open 24 hours. has everything at the lowest prices. Especially luggage. |

san jose? random choice of cities there. Wasn't aware there were was a subway system or high-rise apartments in SJ or a top-notch zoo either. Learn something new every day.
That being said, the man is right, Singapore isn't a bad place to get clothing. |

Have you seen the price of stuff in the UK? Remember the $ sign just gets changed to a pound (sorry keyboard has no pound sign and cant change it as Im at work), even though the exchange rate if basically 2 pounds to 1 $ at the moment.
So low prices in the west sure don't mean the good old UK, rip off if ever there was one. (PS3 will be 425 quid here which is about 850 US$, nice) |

Even if it's the largest K-Mart in the world? That's something to tell the grandkids, ain't it? |
