I resigned effective Feb. 28. I will finish teaching Jan. 23.
My new job wants me to do a demo lesson on Friday the 26th and start teaching Monday Jan. 29. (I'm not particularly worried about teaching before the visa run.)
My question is: When should I have my present boss cancel my visa?
(I'm presently in mourning about the 'lost' 5 week paid vacation, but there isn't anything I can do about that. The Philippines will just have to wait.) |

Wow - you just really didn't like the public school scene?
If it's just one demo class I wouldn't worry about it, but don't start working until you're visa's been cancelled. |

I'm finding it difficult to choose the right words to express just how much I hate the public school scene. Loathe? Despise? Somehow they aren't strong enough. |

I would do it sooner rather than later. Coordinate it so that your old boss goes in and cancels your visa one day, and your new boss goes in the next to get your issuance #. It just seems to me that it would be an added stress on you not being completely legit.
I wonder if it is possible to get your LOR dated the 23rd, and have a new issuance number ready for the 24th, so that you could fly out to Japan on the 24th, and be ready to go on the 26th. It wouldn't hurt to have your new boss put in a call to immigration to see.
I agree about the public schools though. Although I haven't worked at one, many friends do. And while they seem to enjoy it, from their stories, it isn't my cup of tea. |
