Dear All,

About 2 months ago my son & I met "smudge" an adorable Jindo mix.
She was darting in & out of traffic to snag bits of meat a child had
been throwing into the road.

It was so heartbreaking to see her risk life & limb for scraps just
for the amusement of some dysfunctional kid (whose mom was standing
right there!)

So we brought her home & cleaned her up. We nicknamed her smudge
because she was covered in an oily grime that took several baths to
reveal she was white not grey.

The vet says she's about 6 months, now she's had her puppy shots,
been de-wormed and housetrained. We'd love to keep her, but we
already have a dog. Our first dog, whom we've had for 3 years is
just not copin with competition in the apt. The quarrels are
gettting nasty & its time we let "smudge" go before this affects her
laid back friendly attitude.

If you're interested, send me a PM and I'll be happy to send you pics or answer questions.

Thanks~!

bravo for stepping in and taking the dog. Very Happy stupid woman and her stupid kid obviously have no clue or concern for others! Evil or Very Mad

i live in a box that's barely big enough for my cat. i wish i had space for a dog! a jindo would be a beauty of a dog to own.

good luck finding a home for the smudgeroo!!!

i think you should post some pix here in the thread ... you'll get more interest if they can see the dog and realise how beautiful it is. Very Happy

What a beautiful puppy. Any idea what the mix is? Looks like some labrador action as well.

Yes, her head & paws do lead one to think of a Lab, she certainly has a Lab's personality ^-^

We also had the vet start her "doggie passport" so she's able to travel to home countries. If anyone has questions about importing a pet into the USA I'd be happy to help.

Aww...Smudge is a gorgeous puppy. Smile

I would love to take her, unfortunately I'm not in country yet I should be there approximately the 27th (if I ever get my darn Visa).

I wish I was there now and able to take her for you, Jindos are absolutely gorgeous dogs, and labs probably have the best personality, so a really good mix.

There are no time pressures involved here~ If she's still available when you get to Korea, your certainly welcome to visit with her to see if you two make a good fit.

cool I might just do that. I am supposed to arrive around the 27th and start work on the 1st. As of yet I'm still waiting on my Visa number so I can go to the Consulate in San Francisco to get the Visa stamped and for the recruiter to send the plane tickets.

I will pm you when I arrive (and find out if animals are allowed wherever I end up living) if you don't post a message saying someone adopted Smudge and we can set something up. Will that work for you?

good luck getting here sam!! i hope it works out ... if it's of any interest to you, most apartment buildings don't have restrictions regarding animals. there's a 95% chance that you'll be allowed to have pets if you choose to do so.

Stephannie, i told you the doggie pix would help! Very Happy

and i'd also like to take this chance to plug a good website: http://www.lonelylifetime.com/ ... there's a lot of mistreatment of animals in korea ... as Stephannie can attest to. rather than buying pets, try to help others by taking stray pets and giving them a good home.

be part of the solution, not the problem. Very Happy

Thanks SD for the advice a good wishes. I wasn't sure if the apartment would have an issue with it or want to charge an extra security fee or something. And yes the pictures did help, she's so cute Smile

Stephanie, I don't remember- did you say if she was spayed or not? Did the vet give you any idea of how big she going to get? And where are you? I'll be living in Suwon.

Another question that just occured to me, can you take larger dogs on the subways/trains? I remember from the last time I was in Korea women taking their purse puppies on the subway/buses, but not he bigger puppies. Does anyone know?

Sure Samatha, PM when you arrive & are settled in~

If Smudge finds a good forever home I'll post to let everyone know

In addition to what SuperDave has mentioned about housing being pet friendly, keep in mind that "city rules" apply here.

Your neighbors will be more receptive to anyone with pets when they see you pick up after your pet on walks. In the three years we've had Spot here in Korea, the biggest complaint ever was the idea that we might not be picking up after her on walks. As gross as it might sound, dont hide the poop bag or folks will think you're not "doing right" by the neighborhood.

Most cities in the USA have regulations in place about this, so it's not new or unheard of ~ just being good neighbors.

What works for us are the cheap 500won plastic gloves sold at grocery stores ~ the kind used at kimbap stands...(@100 in a pack). The gloves & some tissue work great for pickups then inverted as pulled off then tie up the "wrist" & toss in nearest trashcan. Like vaccinations it's all part of being a responsible owner...

I live in Cheonan~ and have a mini van so a trip to Suwon isn't a big deal.

Unfortunately, I dont know about train/bus rules as when traveling with our dogs, we just drive. I have seen mid-sized dogs in carriers on KTX.

She hasn't been spayed yet (not by us anyway~ would have to ask the vet) but she has had puppy shots & been de-wormed. Not sure how big she will get, Jindos are usually medium sized dogs ~with the mix I'm really not sure.

The vet says she was at 6 months when she had her first puppy shot set, so that puts her at about 7.5-8 months now.

Here's a link to a pic of her next to Spot who's about 7kg
http://photo.ringo.com/182/182002554O195301004.jpg

On a trip to Magoska temple, Smudge made a playmate with another Jindo who appeared to be full grown

Here's a pic of her next to another playmate at Songinsan National Park the other dog is probably about 5kg

She's not going to be a tiny dog that's for sure. She eats about 2 cups of dry food a day & we're trying not to spoil with too many treats. We're giving her more feed than the vet recommends, because we're trying to get her weight up to normal.

Hope this helps~!

Just to clarify. Anything that is approaching the size of an American Cocker Spaniel is not welcomed on a subway. So Smudge will definitely be a no no. I am sorry to say that though.
Q to everyone else: I would like to know where I can buy bulk plastic bags mostly for scooping up the doggy #2.

Thanks for the info and the extra pictures. Smudge is a beautiful puppy. I definately love to have her as my puppy. I am still waiting on all my travel stuff. I should be in country as I said approximately the 27th, so if possible I could get Smudge about the 3rd.

Now if someone else is able and willing to adopt Smudge prior to that then by all means let them adopt her, there's no point holding her until I get there. My being able to adopt her is all dependant on when my Visa/plane tickets become available, and I actually get there Smile

Hey, if the fights are bad, I can hold onto smudge until Sam gets in. I have a large place, with absolutely no furniture for puppies to chew on...
